Turned up leaves, pls help

Hey folks,

7 weeks into veg. This begun happening about 2 weeks ago. Pls tell me what the problem is.

I have tried spraying with an organic, soap-based pesticide, just in case it was pest related (that's the white residue you see - no need to worry), but it obviously wasn't insect.

I started with a bit of a hot soil mix (don't mix soil when ripped!), and feed no other nutes (I have Canna Terra Flores waiting for me to flip)

This problem is not spreading fast, but I want to know what it is. I've tried foliar feeding a weak Epsom Salt solution on a couple occasions, thinking it may be a Magnesium deficiency, but it did not fix things.

I did have my 600w HPS a little too close to the plants some time back so it could be heat problems. If so, pls confirm.

The leaves, whilst turned up and twisty, are not dry and crumply.

Thanks in advance folks :joint:

Oh yeah, the list:

How long has this problem been going on? About a fortnight
Are you growing in a PVC grow tent? (example: Hydrohut or any other non brand tents) No.
What system are you running? (DWC? Ebb flow? Aero? Water Farm? Flood Tables? and so on...) Soil
What STRAIN are you growing? California Orange and bagseed
What was the establishing technique? (Were the seed or clone?) seed
What is the age of your plants? 40 days from germination
How long have they been in there mixture they are in now?(coco, soiless etc..) 30 days
What substrate/medium are you using?(Hydroton, RockWool etc.) Organic potting mix, organix blood & bone, flourish in the soil
What Nutrient's are you using?(If growing soiless) Only what's in the soil as listed above. I have Canna Terra Flores waiting the flip.
When was your last watering? 2 days before photos taken
What is your water temps? room temp - in soil.
What size bulb are you using? 600W HPS
What is the distance to the canopy? 500mm
What is your RH Factor(Relative Humidity)? I don't know. Outside is 55%
What is the canopy temperature? 37 degrees
What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include flucutaion range) 34 during the day, up to 39 at night because I need to shut the room - but there is a fan on them.
What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.) Room is completely open to the outside, 17 hours a day. The rest, it is shut up.
Tell us about your ventilation, intake exhaust and when its running and not running ? Only two pedestal fans. The room is completely open most of the day, so nothing else needed
Is the fan blowing directly at plants? Yes - not too strong but!
What water are you using? Water from the Aquarium. PH 7 and nicely charged with organic compounds - no chemicals
Are you using water from a water softener?- no
Have any pest chemicals been used? If so, What and When? Yates Insect and Mite Killer - Natrasoap - Biodegradeable, organic and non-residual. Once only, about a week ago. Problem occurred before then and hasn't changed since then.
Are plant's infected with pest's? No and never have been.

Thanks guys!

Looks like a heat problem. When leaves start pointing upwards, its usually an indication that the plants are hot. Move em a bit farther and see if there's any improvement. You may also want to take the temperature at the canopy level so you know if you're running hot.

You may be right.

Temps at canopy level are between 30-38 degrees. I have a fan on em 24/7 and can open the grow room during the day (when light is not a problem) but must close it at night - the light.

They are drinking like a camel and during the day I mist water over them a couple of times. Not much else I can do to get them temps down. Even putting on the A/C only brings it down a couple of degrees.

I do live in Queensland, and it is still summer (until tomorrow lol!), so not sure what else I can do.

Can anyone else confirm the heat problems? Or suggest novel ideas for temp reduction?

Thanks again in advance.

Heat at night when you shut the door is def slowing you down and stressing them out. Turning the lights off at night for 6 hours at a time will do.

Plants are alive and shy away from harm. It appears there is something above them that is causing them to fight for there life. New growth gets transpiration priority and fan leaves are stuck dancing in the heat.
If you took the hps to 1000mm you will not hurt anything.

1. stop the aquarium water. Use tap and make sure it is phd correctly. Stopped spraying things on the leaves as well and you say you sprayed for pests so that answers that question.

I'm sorry, but I don't know the answer to this.......how long is a fortnight?

And what ph are you putting things in (PLEASE stop the aquarium water) and what is your ph runoff?

way too hot and if you are spraying them during lights on then those water droplets act like little magnifying glasses and can burn the hell out of the leaves.

that's heat stress and they will stunt in growth or you will look in there one morning and all have gone to a better place so if you want them get that heat down and quit spraying anything on them with that type of heat they are cooking, peace 1luv...

Not novel but this may help.

I run my HIDs at night when its cooler. Mine come on @ 6pm and go off at 6am.

That will help a lot.

Good Luck
