I know this questions should be in the medical forum but ill just post it here. I live in Canada, and i want to obtain a medical marijuana card. I have dislocated my right shoulder about over 10 times over period of 4-5 years and most of them i put back myself and i have dislocated my left shoulder twice. When i sleep i get pains in my shoulder and that keeps me from sleeping.
also i have a pin in my left hip called a hip slip (Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis) and i rarely get pains from that but when i do it really hurts like hell.
oh yea just to mention i'm only 21 years old.
bottom line is, weed will ease my pain but i hate taking those pain killers pills.
So do you think I will qualify?

i think it varies on where u are

i know that in colorado you had to have one of the med. conditions that they recognized (there are like 12 or so).

....then a note from a DR that simply said you had such and such condition and that cannabis "might" help your condition.

I'm out in Cali, but in order to get my medical marijuana recommendation I had the following:

1. Historical documentation of an ailment. This can be in the form of a series of office visits. For example, documentation of visits to the doctor/ chiropractor etc. If you have x-rays/MRI's to back stuff up, this will help further your case. You can request copies of records of your visits from the office...it's your right

2. Possessing a chronic recurring and/or terminal disease: Let's face it, if you have cancer or MS and state you need it for pain or to counteract other drugs side-effects, you'll pretty much get an Rx. If or when the shit hits the fan, cops are not really into busting ill people and the Rx will keep your ass out of jail.

This is what works for me. The Dr. who gave me my Rx is a Board-certified oncologist and has testified in court on behalf of medical marijuana patients, so he's very legit and not shady.

Hope this helps

How to Apply to the Office of Cannabis Medical Access (OCMA)
or Medical Marihuana Access Division (MMAD).

Once you have obtained the forms, you can begin your application process. Click here if you need forms, or call toll free 1-866-337-7705.

If you are only applying to possess marihuana for medical purposes, forms A and B must be completed.
If you are applying to both possess and grow your own marihuana for medical purposes, forms A, B, C, (and E, if applicable) must be completed.
If you are applying to possess dried marihuana for medical purposes and would like another person to grow the marihuana for you, forms A, B, D (and E if applicable) must be completed.

The application form must be accompanied by two passport sized photographs, to be used on an identification card issued to applicants authorized to possess. The card can be shown to a police officer as evidence that the person is permitted to possess marijuana.

Health Canada will acknowledge receipt of the application within 10 days of receipt and will indicate if any of the required information is missing. Applications from patients with terminal conditions will be given priority for processing. Processing time for the application will vary depending on the nature of the applicant's medical condition, and whether all of the necessary information has been received. Applicants who are approved will be notified in writing.

Many doctors/health professionals may insist that you have previously tried all the mainstream drugs and pharmaceuticals first, for your medical condition, before prescribing marijuana.

You can go to your pharmacist and get the complete fact/data sheet for all the specific drug(s) you have previously tried, or have considered trying. These sheets list all the negative and unwanted side effects to back up your request for medical marijuana.

You can also search the online pharmacy drug database at drugs.com to get more information about specific prescription drugs.

These are the 5 main forms below:

Form A: Application for the Authorization to Possess Marijuana
Form B:(B1,B2) These are the medical support forms that are filled out by your doctor(s) and/or specialist(s).
Form C: Application for Licence to Produce Marihuana by Applicant (for growing yourself)
Form D: Application for Licence to Produce Marihuana by Designated Person (for the person you choose to grow for you)
Form E: Consent of Property Owner to grow marihuana (for renters)

If you are applying for medical marijuana, we'll supply and ship to you as we are registered with Health Canada as a licenced grower.

If you are a Health Canada Office of Cannabis Medical Access (OCMA) Licencee, you can register here for your medical marijuana supply.

Under Health Canada MMAR regulations, we supply BC Grown Certified Organic Cannabis to licenced patients as the MMAR designated grower.

Please fill out the following information to register with us. We are the only legal source in Canada providing certified organic medical cannabis. We will contact you and begin your registration process with Health Canada.

Who is eligible to use medical marijuana?

The regulations outline two categories of people who can apply to possess marihuana for medical purposes.

Category 1:

This category is comprised of any symptoms treated within the context of providing compassionate end-of-life care; or the symptoms associated with the specified medical conditions listed in the schedule to the Regulations, namely:

Severe pain and/or persistent muscle spasms from multiple sclerosis;
Severe pain and/or persistent muscle spasms from a spinal cord injury;
Severe pain and/or persistent muscle spasms from spinal cord disease;
Severe pain, cachexia, anorexia, weight loss, and/or severe nausea from cancer;
Severe pain, cachexia, anorexia, weight loss, and/or severe nausea from HIV/AIDS infection;
Severe pain from severe forms of arthritis; or
Seizures from epilepsy.

Applicants must provide a declaration from a medical practitioner to support their application.

Category 2:

This category is for applicants who have debilitating symptom (s) of medical condition (s), other than those described in Category 1.

Under Category 2, persons with debilitating symptoms can apply to obtain an Authorization to Possess dried marihuana for medical purposes, if a specialist confirms the diagnosis and that conventional treatments have failed or judged inappropriate to relieve symptoms of the medical condition.

While an assessment of the applicant's case by a specialist is required, the treating physician, whether or not a specialist, can sign the medical declaration.

Canadians- go to treatingyourself.com a nice little CANADIAN site. They will fill you guys in.
http://www.treatingyourself.com/ And be sure to check out the old issues of their magazine- it's the ONLY cannabis mag I subscribe to! That should tell you something.

Kali, you might want to visit these folks in Hawaii, they are into the religious use of cannabis, but are helpful folks. Sister Lilli is a sweetie. http://www.thc-ministry.org/forum/index.php

No I was just playin, I got a couple crushed disks in my spine, and it doesnt bother me when people without serious illness get a card because I believe we all should be able to smoke free, and if you gotta lie about a medical condition just for your freedom to smoke then go for it, power in numbers baby!

i originally got my rec for acid reflux..it really help cut down the episodes of heartburn all night and vomiting blood in the morning. i got my rec w/ no prior medical history on record. i told the doc that tagament/pepsid,etc all made me nausous and he had no problem. i was on felony probation for cultivation at the time and was honest with him when he asked about trouble with the law...Since then i lost my kidney in a fight at work '06 (i was security for godsmack at the time) and while in the hospital they discovered i had a factor of lupus. the pot really really counteracts the side effects of my blood thinner (coumadin) and ive halved my daily dose of vasotec..i guess i legitimately snuck in the door getting my rec w/ no med records but karma came along and made me more 'compliant' with the law....And right on with what GET MO is saying about the power in numbers. Its a shame we just cant fire up for the sake of firing up........

Ya I'm to totally for strength in numbers, and hope that one day we can all enjoy it without being perceived as criminals(non med users that is) It's just kinda fucked up to see ppl who do have a legitimate medical reason for it, yet no doctors are helping them acquire their federal exemption.

Does severe pain from Spina Bifida fall under "Severe pain and/or persistent muscle spasms from a spinal cord injury;"? I assume it would. Any input?

Your situation with not liking to take the pills is a strong reason to get MM. Many people are prescribed pharmaceuticals that upset their stomach and ruin their appetite. The MM treats the symptoms without those negative affects.

Also, talking about a shoulder or knee or a back pain can easily be "scientifically" investigated with machines. Mucho better to just say you got migraines and you don't like poppin' pills cuz they mess up your tummy. Kind of tough to get inside someone's head and figure out why and when they got a headache. Plus, migraine can be sign of tumor, and who wants to go find out they got cancer without being stoned out of your mind first.
