Never been there but I have some seeds of a Northern Indian sativa from Varanasi. They came from a village outside of town. You should also be able to get some Kerala seeds there.

Kerala is another strain of Indian weed. I have a sativa from Varanasi, Kerala, Parvati, Pahari Farmhouse, Malana,Kullu jungli(wild) from Chandrakani Pass, Kasol, Manali and Punjab. Most are Himalayan charas strains.

Kerala is a southern India state where you can find very potent sativa strains. The local lowland strains from Varanasi itself aren't anything great, IMO.

But in varanasi, you'll find official government shops selling bhang (edible cannabis preparation), or even bhang shops selling already prepared bhang-lassi, i.e youghurt mixed with bhang. One glass in the morning and you're set for the whole day. I'll try to find the address of a bhang-shop I used to go to when I spent some time there, if you're interested. It's a great feeling to drink your morning bhang lassi with a traffic cop sitting just outside the shop (used to be like that 20 yrs ago anyway).

Also, among the hundreds of people who'll approach you to sell you something, there will be some dealers, you can be sure.

Careful though,
Varanasi is fucking insane.

Many dealers who approach you on the street are not trustable.
Most of the drugs are being offered right infront of policemen...

There are many cases that go like this:
A man approaches you and offers to sell you some good charas or Ganja...
So you make an honest deal for a small amount, then seconds later the police run up to you and grab you! Then they bribe you for whatever they can, and split the profit with the dealer...

The only real buisness men in India deal in their homes or shops, and never do they start touting on the street. In Varanasi, some of the boat rowers out on the ghats can offer you a safe deal, if your out floating on the Gangas together alone. That way, if shit went down you throw it in the water!

Careful with the Bhang Lassi. There are hole in the wall style bhang lassi shops in Varanasi, but going to a resturant can be a little safer and more mellow...They tend to make it weaker in resturants, and you can order it with some food, unlike from the hole in the wall Bhang stands...
Last thing you want is to be too fucked up, totally lost in the dark alleys of the Gheto parts around the Ghats!
Remeber this: If the Lassi is so strong it tastes bad, and not pleasantly good, then it is going to be a hell of a trip.

Yes, Saranath is a must, and only a cheap rickshaw away form Varanasi. But I don't think they have any guest houses, so you gota stay in Varanasi. Regardless, A trip to Saranath is very cool...

Definately hit it up. Oh and the Alka guest house is really good. Try to stay there if you can, for I think it is one of the best...

it's a pretty hectic town. lots of tourists, both indian and foreign nationals, and the 'tourist traps' that come with them. lots of rip-off merchants on the crowded streets but it's also an amazing place. the ghats and the ganges are revealed as everyday parts of life, busy, holy, practical. lots of brahmins around. the station is pretty good but i had to wait 27 hours for a train from there! you got to be patient and retain a sense of humour and detachment if you are gonna survive and enjoy Varanasi. i made friends with a rickshaw driver who had to sleep in his vehicle. we got drunk on his cheap whisky, smoked hash and discussed the meaning of life. it's chaos and within its mix lie the ingredients of heaven and hell.

Those small streets around the ghats can be quite scary. It's very easy to get lost in the labyrinth, especially if your high..

Not to mention finding you nose to nose with one of those huge brahman bulls or worse, an angry elephant (happened to a friend)...

PUJA guest house is full of hash smoke

PUJA guest house is full of hash smoke

I stayed there a stint, and man everyone was smoking hash, the whole place was a hashy haze of smoke! THe hash in Varanasi is good, but , hash in Nepal is better. It's one of the oldest cities in the world as well as one of the most chaotic , the streets are narrow and windy, too lose the enemy in attacks, but when you come across a bull you just have to push em outa the way. have slipped in cow shit many times there.

heard that bhang, or milk/weed concoction is extremely potent.. an indian friend of mine just got back said that shit messed him up the whole day and hes no lightweight. so be prepared for that
