Distance to 400w HPS?

Peace.. how much distance do YOU maintain between a 400 W HPS and the top of the girls? Heat is not a consideration in my situation.. the HPS has a reflector .. I usually try for 20" - 24"

thanks..

you want it as close as possible without burning them, usually about 18 inches, but if heat isnt an issue then you should get it closer.

I also use a 400w, i usually keep the light approx 14 inches away from the tops, but with Neville's Haze it's best to keep the light even further away to get the buds nice and dense, so with the Nev's i keep the light 24-26 inches away from the tops:yes:

I got confused on this one.

For denser nugs you put the lights FURTHER away. I am a newer grower and wanted to know why would further lighting produce better than close?

U need to move that 400w ALOT closer. In my honest opinion 20" or more away from the tops of the plants is WAY TOO FAR AWAY. Get the most outta that light...10" to 14" is good and never had a plant burn yet.

I prefer the hand test. Stick hand, palm down, under the lamp. Raise hand as close as is comfortable. There's your height.

after 12in you loose lumens. i would try to cool it down to at least 12in or the light is a waste in my opinion.

imo the above chart is great to use for reference, you never wanna take the light too far away i.e: 400w @ 24 inches or more. Thats just from your canopy let alone if theres anything below it...I use the hand method and get them as close as possible while maintaining a decent footprint.

you want the lights as close as possible without heating the tops of your plant.by raising your light you decrease the heat around the buds which will ripen better as in hazeseekers case.

I use a heat spreader and can get down as close as about 8-10 inches.
I got a bit of bleaching on the last run by getting a bit close to the tips.

just been looking at heat spreaders... only 20 euros and they make some pretty bold claims about yield increase... what's your personal experience, Homegrower?

I think moving your light much closer than 24" would shrink your light footprint and DECREASE your overall yield per sq/ft.

I agree with Andre, on my last grow i had my 400w about 6-10 inches away with no burning. I wouldnt dare keep it 16+ inches away, you might as well grow with cfl's at that distance!
