cloning under 18/6? Lighting questions

S

Sir_Nugget

SImple question, will cuttings root under 18/6? Can moms be kept under 18/6, or will they eventually start to bud? And lastly, I heard some1 mention flowering a plant under 14/10 after a couple weeks of 12/12.. Any1 use that technique to increase their gpw?

thanks for the helkp

ive only tried to root my cuttings under 18/6 and it works everytime, it is the basic veg light cycle. why did you think it had to be like 20/4 or 24/0 or what?

I really don't think there's much difference in the 18/6, 20/4, 24/24 as long as you dont' go less then 6 hours of darkness you will be fine..Some use 18/6 to save energy and less heat.

I just wanted to be sure, I'm guna make a 400w mh veg room.. Il just put all my moms clones veg in that one 18/6 room.. no need for a 24/0 room

I find a 24/0 light schedule produces faster growth and tighter internodes. Plants do not grow in the dark. I assume 24/0 also makes clones root faster, although I have not tested.

Cant remember where I read it but clones root better under 18-6 and best veg was 20-4 .I remember the reason given was same reason we sleep or something like that .My experience has been my plants look like they need a nap after 20 hours of intence light (over 100watts per sq ft).

Maybe roots grow during the dark period? I would like to know...

I will look for the article it has been awhile thou ,could be I just read it and now I think its true (must be true I read it on the internet)syndrome..

I prefer the 18/6 veg. cycle, but on occasion I've used the 24/0 light cycle when I've had some sick babies that I was trying to bring back up to par. It worked too.

But I prefer 18/6 because in nature there isn't any 24 hour light cycle, unless you're in Alaska. As an indoor gardener, IMO, it's our job to try and mimic the outdoor environment indoors, but we have the advantage and ability to control our indoor garden's environment more directly.

Basically, it's all about ones preference of whether they use 18/6 or 24/0 etc... and how they might weigh the Pros and Cons of either veg. lighting cycle.

I agree with Grinchy, 24 hours is best for me.

Being an outdoor grower of indica's, I can tell you that 12/12 has no real relevance to the flowering of the plants, at least for indica dominant varieties. Every indica or indica dominant strain ive grown begins to flower at the first of august when daylength is 14 hours long.

If you grow indica dominant plants under 14 hours of artificial light, they will begin to flower at aroung 40 days.

My question in regards to 18/6 is this: Does light during the 6-off period mess anything up like it would during the 12-off period in flower? Can light during the 6-off period herm the mom/clones/seedlings?

Roots may grow during the dark hours but they also grow during hours of light, as I prefer to clone 24/0. my fastest rooting time was 5 days (2/9 made cut places in rr-2/14 rooted), multiple roots outside of the rapid rooter 1-2cm, although my average cut, depending on the plant/cut health takes 7-10 to show good roots, sometimes even longer if they're stubborn.

Clones don't need much light.

Under a shelf with a little 18W floro about 10 inches above, works for me.

IF - the cuts are taken from flowering plants - continuous lights on can help to revert to veg.
