Carolina Dog

Just wondering if anyone on icmag, has heard of, or has a Carolina Dog.
picture.php

This is Ruby, she is 2 years old, and me and my dad found her while we were rock hunting down in Georgia. She was living under a tree, in what we thought was a fox den. She was only about a pound when we found her, could not have been 6 weeks old, very skinny, she had probably 100 tick's, stacked one on top of the other, and she shit nothing but sticks and twigs for the first week we had her ( I'm thinking that was all she could find to eat).
Later on we found out that she was a Carolina dog, and that they still run wild, down in Georgia and South Carolina, She is a very smart dog, and very obideant.

Cool info!:woohoo:

She is very smart, almost to smart for her own good. She is very high energy, goes absolutely crazy over any other kind of animal, bird, dog, cat, cow, anything.
But she seems to be a very loyal and good dog,
I had no clue what she was at first, but then I typed in Yellow eyed Canine, into google. And picture's that looked just like her started coming up, it's funny that is the exact website that I found, which led me to belive she was a Carolina dog.

I know a little bit about these dogs and even thought about adopting one but can't really do it right now. I might in the future. But your right these are VERY smart dogs. Every description I have ever read about them agrees. They are also a very primitive breed of dogs, and are believed to be closely related to dingos.
These dogs also run in packs. I have seen a few packs down in the Georgia swamps.
and not to sound like dog whisper ceaser, but you gotta establish yourself as pack leader with these dogs, or they will run all over ya.

lots of good info on them

oh yea i also believe these are the oldest feral dog populations in North America...

The coat reminds me of my Rhodesian Ridgeback / Lab cross. Coarse, reddish back.

Smart, and very fast. Very smart. And very fast.

Beautiful - and ours was a feral dog from louisiana, after the hurricane.

She is a good dog, and she know's who is boss. She may get a little bit sassy every once in a while but you got to talk to her and put her in check, but she is smart, and very pertective of the baby.

damn good looking dog bro, great story as well.
you can tell she's a thinker, the intensity behind
that gaze, you should do local dog shows imo.......

Thank's for all the comment's, her coat is one of the prettiest i have ever seen, in the summer it is like a golden red, and in the winter it is a darker hot red.
And some unique thing about the Carolina dog, breed. They are self maintenace, you dont have to give them hair cuts, and she never has a doggy odor, even when wet, she has no smell.
I am not for sure what the different catagories and certain types of breeds fit into what shows, so i have never really checked out dog show's, but i have always thought she would do good in the right type of dog show.

if ruby ever has pups with the same breed i demand you give me one haha
your real lucky, one reason i love these dogs is they are such a hardy breed.
as far as i know they are not susceptible to diseases, or things like hip dysphasia.
take good care of her and you should have her for a good 15 years.
