my first run at coco, first 100% organic(blue mountain organics complete line), 30 gal rubbermaid with coir brick top layer, 2.5 cubic ft(however it fits in the rubbermaid), bottom layered with hydroton, i also, have twelve 3gal buckets, but, those will just be coco no droton. my question pertains to the rubbermaid, though. What are my possible obstacles? i know this medium is the shit but, this is my first run with coco, so, a little heads up what be much appreciated. hand watering from seed to harvest, finally made enough money to stop working so, i'm going to celebrate with a wonderful grow of kush and haze and some really elite shit. they say it's a recession but, God is always good. :yeahthats

as someone who has run coco organic and have had problems i recommend that you have cal/mag and liquid karma on hand just in case they can save your crop, be on the look out for cal.mag deficiencies. watch out for fungus gnats as well.

i too am planning on a coco grow with organic nutrients,
maybe bio bizz, earth juice, age old organics, iguana juice. i have not decided which is the lucky winner.
but i would like to hear more from people who have tried it

or am i just wasting my time, should i just go chemical?

Organics in Coco

Why are you wanting to grow organic in the first place? What are your Pros vs Cons of each?

There are threads discussing the Pros and Cons of each, I think either in the Hydro section or in the 'Organic Hydro' section - but personally, I have found that organics just does not work very well with coco. :noway:

I tried all different kinds of organic nutrients in different ways, and each time the salt fed plant outperformed the organically fed plant by miles.

Try it, and decide for yourself.

But I would recommend a properly formulated 2 or 3 part hydroponic fertilizer. Even a bad, one part hydroponic fertilizer would probably outperform organics in coco...

Good luck with your grow!

I disagree, organic coco...

it was not easy to get it to work i had to play around with the mix and setup. I am using guanos (bat and bird) for bot veg and flower as well as ewc, kelp meal, cal/mag, liquid karma and fulvic acid. Not completely organic but close. check out my signature for more info.
Wow C21H30O2!

Well done - I could never get that with organics and coco!

I stand corrected.

But I think I am going to stick with the salts... What nutrients are you using, if I may ask?

That is why I only have one organicly fed plant in my perpetual - testing organics untill I get it right, while at least I am almost guaranteed a decent harvest from the rest...

It can be very discouraging to see all your plants fail... and with organics in coco I have only managed to slowly kill my plants...

So, chems for the majority, just to keep me happy...

c21h3o02, thanks for the heads up on the cal/mag def. i was looking at my seedlings after i moved them to my rubbermaid of coco and hydroton and i was starting to get upset for letting the guy at the hydro store talk me into coco. but, now i'm happy as fuck. went to work last night and when i got home this morning to my surprise i saw a tremendous explosion in my rubbermaid. i have 40 seedlings and i think i'll have all 40 sprout within a day . i tweaked my nutes to supplement for potential problems and i think i'll be just fine. i'm giving my seedlings this root stimulator called super plant tonic, 1tbsp molasses, 1tbsp epson salt and the plants seem to really enjoy this tea. my veg and bloom nutes are guano based tea's and i think with a little epson salt and molasses throughout i should be just fine:woohoo:

go extremly light with all nutrients with those seedlings. don't be afraid to bmpb up the K after they are established, and half strength cal mag does them right.
