Common as the rain, both mites and mildew!

A slow veg cycle gives me time to relax and train 'em proper. Looking forward to it on the next round.

Has anyone every heard of the strain called W.S.U. RED, I have one i picked up from Big Blue(OGF) and really want to know about it, everything... I have have included pictures. Thank You
raffin

It's also known as "U-Dub" or "UW" and the urban myth goes something like this:

The story goes that at a point in time in the early 1980's under a legal cannabis research project at the University in Washington, several strains were given to the researchers by the federal government from the (in)famous and legendary cannabis farm down in Mississippi. This part of the story was easily verifiable.

And the story goes that this strain was 'liberated' by one of the UA (undergraduate assistants) at the University of Washington. That's a no-brainer, eh?

Given that the strains which first appeared in Neville's 'The Seed Bank Catalog' and SSSC (Super Sativa Seed Club which is now Sensi Seeds) in the late 1980's, who bought and acquired many of their first strains in the Pacific Northwest, (Northern Lights [all flavors], Williams Wonder [aka M-39 in the SSSC Catalog], Big Bud, et al.) then if this other urban myth is true then it wouldn't be too much of a stretch if the legendary G-13 was the same strain studied at UW.

That's the story anyway. Tall tales in weird times perhaps and nothing more.

I grew this strain for a couple of years and enjoyed it very much. Easy plant to grow at every level, i.e. cloning, veg & flower.

It's a keeper.

Hehe, us gardeners and urban myths. I'm generally satisfied with Cannabis, have yet to smoke something and say to myself, "Damn, this sucks."

I've smoked nothing but home grown though. It's easy to understand how the hype consumes people after smoking some decent bud after schwag bags. The stories do get a little far fetched at times for even a stoner to believe though.

Have you tried Afgooey yet CC? That and Medicine Woman are hanging at the top of my list with Ice Cream and Orange Crush now. Clue me in on anything else you know of that's super potent. I need something that can bring a 300lb man to his knees.

I've smoked the Afgooey at one of the cannabis cups held in the autumn. I can't remember if it was the ORNORML or OregonGreenFree deal. Very nice but I have no experience growing it.

RE: Medicine Woman and her sister, Medicine Man

These come from an OMMP grower over in Eastern Washington. I 'think' that I was told some of the genetics include Big Bud (boo!) which is often used by breeders to get a huge bud set. The strain 'Dynamite' is also involved but that's all I know about the genetics.

As far as growing, I found that the Medicine Woman (specifically) had too much sativa influence for my gardening situation since I generally grow indica-dominant strains. This strain was prone to show signs of powdery mildew than other strains that I've grown. It's a nice strain and certainly is well respected by MMJ growers in the PNW so I'd say you would do well to give it a try.

Other strains that I've seen floating around the medical growers that you might want to consider are Shiskaberry (sp?) and get the cut from the boys down in Southern Oregon - easily available and worth looking for, IMHO

You might want to try Sweet Pink Grapefruit which is another popular strain around these parts. It's a specific phenotype from a Canadian-bred strain but I don't recall which one specifically. Sweet Tooth perhaps?

The Jack Herer cutting passed around the OMMP deal is probably a good choice for you. That and Star Trek - both produce outstanding pain-management medicine. Let the Jack Herer go for 9 weeks or so. Star Trek finishes around 56 days to 60 days. That's with 25% showing amber - adjust for your needs.

For me it's Jack Herer during the day and Star Trek to get some sleep. Like 6 hours straight for example which was an elusive goal a couple of years back.

Thanks for the information.

My opinion of Shiskaberry must be skewed from most. I've tried several samples from a few growers and it just didn't stand out. Maybe I need to give it another sampling from someone else before making a final judgment.

Sweet Pink Grapefruit just entered my radar, don't recall anyone I know having it. Will keep my eyes peeled now.

Jack Herer is in my buddy's garden now, looking good. Will know if it's the stuff in a few more weeks.

Clackamas CootMind me asking what strains keep your garden busy these days besides Star Treck?

I have one of those (in)famous 'Unknown Jeromes' that I got from an old hippy down in Eugene. He called it 'Dirty Old Hippy' (stupid name) and I couldn't tell you anything about it other than it looks to be a standard 75% Indica x 25% Sativa. It has a very peculiar odor when you rub the branches. My first go with this strain is this cycle - she's still in veg and I'll move her over to the flower room sometime this week.

Looks promising.

I also grow the Legend's Ultimate Indica. Stunning in every way. I've not finished her out yet but this may well replace Jack Herer and even Star Trek based on early sampling. Another gift from another MMJ grower down in Eugene.

Good growers down in Eugene. Some of them even rival those professional growers down in Californy! I mean it's not OG Kush or anything like that but it's good enough for Orygone hicks, KWIM?

I recently finished a Grandaddy Purps plant for a patient that I grow for (and that's coming to an abrupt end at the end of this cycle) and I'm still wondering how this branch from the mother plant got so screwed up. From reading postings on this forum, this strain is supposed to be like an uber-strain. It probably is - just don't source your cutting from OGF or the other groups passing out cuttings/clones. It's right up there with Purple Shaman and the Purple Urkle cuttings floating around Oregon. Something went really, really wrong in their past.

I grew out GDP and PU before, there's a lot of glamor but not a whole lot of kick. Again, it just may be the cuts we have had access to up here. I'm thinking S1 seeds instead of the actual clone being cause.

I know someone else who has Dirty 'ol Hippy and had good things to say about it. Keep me in mind for this one in the future if it's a keeper.

LUI still keepin' up with the big dogs of today 'eh? Haven't tried it personally, but followed many a grow of it on Overgrow back in the days.

Thanks

Something's wrong - that's for sure. Why anyone would grow these cuttings out after the first go-around boggles the mind.

Cool - see what their opinion is about the final product if you can. It's got kind of a diesel smell not unlike some of Soma's work that I've had.

I've got you covered on DOH cuttings.

Some things are worth holding on to I guess! LOL

I think I can work a sample out of 'em of the DOH soon. Dropping off a few strains to 'em this coming week. Picking up a clone of Violator Kush, which looks like it will be fun, if you're into huge "specimen" type plants.

Headed to American Ag now, wallet is feeling a bit heavy this morning.

Still up for tomorrow?

Great!

If you're over on the 'Westside' there's an AmericanAg store in the Beaverton area if that's more convenient.

You might want to check out Indoor Garden Depot in Milwaukie on 99E - great prices (much, much better than AmericanAg) and they're pretty helpful - for a grow store.

Tomorrow works for me!

I do frequent the Beaverton location, a little too much. Did you know about their wholesale account discount?

I'll definitely check them out in Milwaukie to see what the lay of the land is. Never hurts shootin' the breeze with other perspectives in the garden industry.

Any time in particular? I made myself free all day.

Looking forward to it.

Back when the whole indoor garden deal was getting started, there were 3 grow stores in Portland and 2 in Seattle.

One of those stores was/is "Halide of Oregon" which is now AmericanAg. Based on this article and their activities during Operation Green Merchant years and years ago is reason enough for me not to do any business with them.

Their soil, i.e. Blackjack, may actually be worse than Black Gold Potting Soil - no small feat.
