What's new

Damn! This Can50 filter looks too big for my tent.

I'm building a new tent with the Hydrohut Silver Edition 3' x 3'. I bought the Can50 before putting it all together and now see that it is so bulky I will have to either give up some vertical height for my light in order to use it inside the tent (sucking air). Or, I could put it outside and push air through it, which is not what I wanted to do originally. A long thinner scrubber (like the Can66) would work better it looks like. Any ideas or recommendations? Thanks

Hello

Hello

What up thirdeye, for a 3'x3' i'd recommend the can33. I have it in a 4'x4' & it's not in the way, & i don't smell a thing. Got some stinky ones in there to.

i also too would like to know about pushing the air through the carbon filter instead of pulling it, i imagine it would still work quite as well, would there be any disadvantages?

I can't give you scientific test studies to evaluate but i've heard time and time again that pulling is always better than pushing.

It may have to do with the fact that it takes a bit longer for it to pull through therefore giving it more time to leech out the scent.

I have a tent with a Can33 and I push into the filter. I bought an A/C filter and put it inside the Can33. Easy peasy. I have pushed into a Can33 carbon filter before for two years straight of several grows with no issues at all. And the plus side is that you get extra space for your light. Check my grow thread below. I'm doing that now. Peace.

Thanks abbie, would like to keep the grow room as clean as possible, good idea on the filter, didnt think of that

Can't really give an answer without knowing what fan it will be hooked up to.
I used to run a tent setup with the filter outside of the tent, and it was great having extra room in there...

Yes, get the kind that is flat and rectangular that you slide into a central air unit in your closet. You know the one. Then remove the outer cardboard edging and cut off any excess. Get the kind that has wire mesh embedded in the filter. That way you can form a cylinder that you insert into the Can33. Then duct tape it at the top and at the bottom to secure it inside the Can33. Put your fan on top of the Can33 and duct tape it to the Can33. Run ducting from the tent to the fan and duct tape it to the fan. And you are set! Done this for years with no problems!

And then to solve sound issues if you need to keep the sound of the fan quiet, just get a bunch of pillows and thick blankets to put around the fan. Then wrap a shitload of duct tape around them. Oh, and don't forget to put some insulation around the ducting first before you run it from tent to fan. That will also reduce sound. Good luck!

Thanks for all the help. I have a Vortex 6" (449 CFM) to use with the filter and I wanted to suck air then connect it to a 6" inch duct near the basement ceiling, thus sending the used air outside. There is another 6" duct that extends almost to the floor right next to the one near the ceiling. This is the way this basement was built. It is part of the building code around here. If I push air then all I can do is exhaust the air into my small basement which wouldn't be as good, right? I could save the fan for another time and get a Can33, Pro 70 or Phat 550 I suppose.

I have a 3'x3'x6.5' tent in an outdoor wooden 10'x14' shed. I have outdoor fresh air seeping in through the cracks of the shed doors. Rest of shed is sealed. I have my fan/filter sitting right next to my tent. I don't run my fan all the time. I use a recycle timer for 1 min. on and anywhere from 5 min. to 10 min. off depending on outdoor temps. When they were small plants I didn't even run the fan at all. Take a look at my grow thread below to see the results. Don't believe everything you read on this forum. Just look at results. Peace.

Most important factors are 1) The light, must be MH or HPS light, 2) Soil/Hydro/Nutes must be of high quality, 3) Don't Overfeed!, 4) Maintain proper pH level of water/nutes (I use a pH meter and keep it between 6.5 and 6.8), 5) Proper temperature from upper 60's to mid-70's.

If they get some air in the beginning, then that's a plus. Near the end of 12/12, yes of course you need air on 24 hours a day to control odor and keep humidity low. High humidity at end of 12/12 will cause mold.

I keep a little heater in my tent to keep them warm if temp drops in the shed. When I recycle out air, the heater kicks on to bring temps back up. Kinda complicated but it works. Peace.

Put a speed dial on your Vortex 6" to dial it down for the Can33. This is exactly the size fan I have. And I'm also using a speed dial.

Do you have a source of air coming into the basement? A vent? Anything? If so, then setup like me and you are ready to go.

Thanks for the help. Yes, I used to use a Speedster for my last small cabinet and it worked great. I am going to try the Grozone TEMP 1v as a controller for this setup. Also, what I was trying to say before is that my basement already has two 6" ducts to the outside already built in. I thought exhausting through one would be the best solution but if I push air through the scrubber into the basement, at least those two built in ducts would allow fresh air to come in.

Well, all I know is what works for me. Every grow and setup is unique. Experiment. Test and retest. And enjoy every minute of it. Peace.

You are right. Exhausting through one of those ducts would be the best. A fan on the other duct would also be ideal to bring fresh air in. More free co2 that way.

Here is a little tent inspiration for you:
