Reverse Osmosis Water

Jenn

Hello all

I have a question for those of you that use R.O. water. Since the water is bare do you add a cal/mag supplement every time you water ( regardless if your adding nutes or just watering with plain water) every time you water your plants? Or do you only add your cal/mag once a week or what not?

Thanks - Jenn

I use a hydro setup with a rec res and I use it during veg and the first 2 weeks of 12-12.
I change nutes every 7 days.
I am sure others do it differently but its what works for me. YRMV

Probably not the reply you're looking for but I incorporate tap water into my RO. I'm not down with the Cal/Mag... But yeah, depends on how you're growing. If you're growing in soil, it'd still probably be a good idea to feed them with a small amount of it in between regular feedings.

you will need to add the micro nutrients either way.

every other watering is good for me...start out at a half dose and work your way up to full strength...

hello Jenn do you have a PH/EC/PPM meter ??? if not i highly suggest it when usen RO water at least untill ya learn what your chosen ferts do to the water. and what you'll need to do to bring waters PH into desired range Sleepy is 1 excellent grower 4sure

i use FFOF soil my ferts are
Pure Blend Pro grow
Pure Blend Pro bloom
botanicare diamond necture {fulvic acids}

ive used liquid karma very good stuff if contains calmag

for FFOF soil i adjust my waters PH to 6.5 be it plain water or ferted, i'll add ferts then adjust PH
as sleepy suggested every other watering feed ferts water untill runoff is achieved if your plant is in a drain pan i suggest to syphon the excess water from it.

Why would you R/O the water??
Is the tapwater noxious, or otherwise unuseable?
Just give them "water".

Sometimes tap is just a little bit too salty and I know how it is to be a purist, so yeah, can see where anyone that uses pure RO is coming from. Thing is, it's just so simple to use or incorporate tap, and the amounts of N in it have to be minuscule. At least compared to Cal/Mag. That and it's basically free. So yeah, more power to yall Cal/Mag growers though, always had trouble dialing it in...

Water isn't water for everyone. Mine comes out with a hefty PPM and a nice dose of whatever hormones leaked through that given week. A month ago we had a sex hormone leak in the local water supply, and two separate sewage spills. killing peoples fish. Mmm, I bet the plants would love that!

LK has no cal-mag.

You will need cal mag with FFOF / PBP. I'd start with a tsp early on in flower and possibly half it later in flower, stop all together for the flush.

Also strain dependent, some like to suck it down more than others.

My water goes through a water softner (salt) and it has ill effect's on my plants.

Is your softwater hooked up to all of your running faucets? I don't use my softener cause I gotta hit up the laundry mat anyways and I have a filter on my shower head. I drink a lot of RO though, lol.

Yes the entire house runs through the softner. I have a RO unit under my kitchen sink with a little spicket.

The water where I live is terrible, it smells like sulphor and all that other good stuff.

yup!....and adding some lime to ur soil mix will also help supply cal and mag. MaryJ cant get enough of the stuff esp in flower.

PBP's formula def needs calmag.............double that if using RO.................and I think if you go say......feed feed water....you would okay to water without the calmag in it....my opinion.....if not....use it all the time and it wont hurt.:2cents:

UGH, I feel you on that. I used to live in a place like that for a short amount of time. Shit smells like you're getting hit with raunchy rotten eggs, amongst other things... Have fun, you'll end up nailing it.

THis is fanfuckityfuckin'tastic folks.
I am new here, and was going to post a question, but here is a current thread!
First I am going to just note my short experience with this.

I use FFOF cut generously with perlite, PBP, CalMag, LK, Hydroplex, and molasses.
I had always ph'd at 6.7, always got the same or within .1 +or-. Never had any issues to speak of really. Everything has always seemed healthy. I couldn't get much more than 8ml/gallon of pbp, 5ml/gallon calmag, 5ml/gallon Hydroplex, molasses intermitently. PPM were always around 900ish I believe if I recall, and my plants would start to burn past that point.

I use RO, and used calmag @ 5ml/gallon throughout the whole grow.
I noted that it was suggested to ph @6.5, Maj Pothead, did your runoff still come out spot on, 6.5 I am guessing. What difference is there between that and running it higher that you notice? Just overall better quality plants? I am going to run a little lower this go around, just curious as to the specific reason why?

I was surprised by the fact that the ph in my soil throughout the whole grow, never veered at all. It was always dead on! When does FFOF putter out and crash? Or does it? The longest I ran in a single pot was about 90 days, never moved ph? I am not complaining, just wondering what some other experience is.

Sorry, I know this is a long ass rambling post, but I have never seen so many fackin' folks in 1 place that grow the same way! I am so excited to pick some brains and read some logs!
Also, based on the amounts given, (total ppm 900ish to 1100 max) how would you tweak that to get the most out of the products I use? One mistake I believe I may have made was using the stupid hydroplex from like week 3 on, and the amount, (5ml/g). Would love some feedback. The molasses I just eyeballed, never used too much, and did not use on any regular basis, just to throw some variety in there every now and again.
Great thread thanks!:yeahthats:abduct:

You don't always need to use cal/mag if you are using nutrients that have sufficient calcium and magnesium to begin with. We use Floranova in ebb & flow with 100% RO water. (The water here comes out of the tap at 650+ ppm -- completely unusable) We used to add cal/mag separately, but then we noticed that the FN has quite a bit of cal/mag in it already. So we dropped the separate cal/mag, and haven't had any problems so far.
