i think he messed up by apologizing. i think if he would have said, "yes, i smoke pot, and i don't see anything wrong with it" and taken a stance, and prove to people that, hey, an 8 time gold metal olympian smokes pot, it isn't a bad thing.

might even encourage some other celebrities to come out and say yes, i smoke pot. unlikely, but you never know. i can't remember the name, but there's a coffee shop in amsterdam that has celebrity pictures all over the walls of the celebs that have visited. how many celebrities slip up on conan o'brien and such, telling a story that happened to them while they were high.

i personally know three all star college football players that smoke pot, a lot of pot, and two nfl players. i'm sure almost all of them do. it's time people wake up and realize it's not something that should be looked down upon.

from my NORML alert email:

Please take time today to contact the Kellogg Corporation. Tell them that you oppose their decision to drop Michael Phelps and that, as a result of their actions, you will not be purchasing any Kellogg's related products for the next three months (or until the company decides to reinstate the Phelps as their spokesperson).

There are several ways you can make your opinion known to the company.

You can call Kellogg's main telephone number during east coast business hours, Monday through Friday, at: (269) 961-2000 or toll free at: 1 (800) 962-1413.
You can e-mail Kellogg's consumer services department by visiting: http://www2.kelloggs.com/ContactUs.aspx.
You can contact Kellogg's media relation department at: 269-961-3799 or via e-mail at media.hotline@kellogg.com.
You can e-mail Kellogg's corporate responsibility department at: corporateresponsibility@kellogg.com.
You can e-mail Kellogg's investor relations department at: investor.relations@kellogg.com.
Or finally, you can write the Kellogg Company a letter at: One Kellogg Square P.O. Box 3599 Battle Creek, MI 49016-3599
When contacting the company, please be polite and concise. Tell them:

"Hi, my name is _____________ and I'm a frequent consumer of Kellogg's products.

Nearly one out of two Americans has used marijuana. This includes tens of thousands of prominent, highly successful Americans -- including our current President. Michael Phelps should not be stigmatized nor condemned for private behavior that he, and millions of others, engage in.

The majority of the public, as well as those in the media, are standing behind Michael Phelps and so am I. I will no longer be purchasing Kellogg's brand products until your company reverses its decision and reinstates Michael Phelps as your spokesperson."

the most ridiculous part of it all is the fucking SC Sheriff trying to bring charges against Phelps!! how the fuck can you do that without any hard evidence? this is all bullshit to me, even my mom can't believe how out of control its gotten and she has never smoked in her life! it was cool to hear from her though that she realized there is NO rational thought when it comes to cannabis laws and use.

honestly, he shouldn't have apologized. he shoulda just lawyered up and fought the charge. according to the norml site, the result would have been a $100-200 fine with a maximum of 30 days incarceration (which he wouldn't get)

phelps, you have much to learn about the world. my advice for someone with money (such as yourself) LAWYER UP BEFORE MAKING A STATEMENT

if your lawyer suggested that you merely apologize, fire your lawyer. the case against you sounds weak as all hell

Glad this happened, not so glad seeing an apology. He smokes weed and still manages to become the fucking pinnacle of human fitness. I think that makes it irrefutably clear to everyone that the ONLY bad things pot has done for the guy are directly caused by its legal and political status.

When a law has no positive effects whatsoever for anyone something has to change.

It has positive effects for those that enforce the law, ie. they get paid.

Why do you think it's law in the first place? !!!

Well put my friend....lmfao!!!!!
I cannot believe how this has ballooned....what a moron. How could someone so famous cave into an allegation? From the picture NOTHING is shown but him holding the bong to his mouth, there's not even smoke.....he admitted, then appologised, then he ratted out his source and buddies....what an ass. He did not deserve the charges, but does now deserve to be manhandled in county for being a rat.

This is a complete waste of resources, a 23 year old smoked some pot big deal. but this sherriff lott obviously has some axe to grind. i would like to see how much has been spent "investigating" this.

They're just trying to make an example out of him since he was/is a rolemodel to the children, Michael should have made an example out of himself. "Yes I smoked pot, I also just won 12 gold medals in the olympics for you people.":fsu:

Bill maher on cnn's larry king just put it best. He said that just look a 13gold medal winner can be at the top of his game and be a pot head. He also said that if micheal phelps was drinking a 6er a day no way would he be at the top of his game. Bill maher is cool .

Nobody said a word while Phelps was drinking and partying his ass off in Vegas for the past month. Funny the difference between glass bottles and glass pipes eh?

Thanks, VISA! I guess my monthly payments are not going to vien.

this reminds me, an gold medal snowboarder was under review b/c he tested positive for THC. its strange that the worlds finest athletes are smoking pot.
