F13s are getting flushed and are on track to cut the tops this weekend.
the one in the smaller pot is more colorful:
picture.php

picture.php

...but the one in the larger pot seems to be more resinous:
picture.php

picture.php

neither of the F13's is going to yield very much, but I have high hopes for the quality.

the G13, as mentioned, seems to be maturing from the bottom up. looking down on one of the tops there's a lot of white pistils:
picture.php

but on the lower buds they are brown and the buds are getting very sticky.
picture.php

the sensi star smells spectacular, like candy, but is going to produce a lot of leaves and not a lot of bud. there are hash plans ;)
picture.php

aaaaaand the Purple Urkle! the main top is a little stretchy and crispy from being too close to the light (future grows will be shorter!) but it's still going to put out lots of excellent smoke.
main top:
picture.php

side branch (yes, this is almost the same size as the main top):
picture.php

picture.php

and FINALLY, the start of the purple! it seems to be starting on the bottoms and insides of the buds. I hear that it goes purple if you take it 70 days (and that many people cut it too soon), so that's the plan. this will start getting flushed on the next watering.
picture.php

and here's one of the next run: Flo! this plant has big, shiny, dark leaves with purple veins.

Pictures of the entire plants are in the album. :joint:

the F13's are almost done. next thing into flower is either SFV OG Kush or Cherry AK-47.

and the next generation of seedlings:
white=C99
blue=C99xSuper Silver Haze
orange=C99xCaliO (this is probably getting culled, it's not growing)
green=Herijuana
purple=Golden Sour Kush
yellow=Blue Moonshine
red=Fire Master Kush ('bagseed' from a club)

Here's a couple pictures of the next thing that will be going into the flower room: SFV OG Kush. it's in need of a bigger screen at the moment, but there's no space for it where the plant is currently.

a tester bud of the purple urkle is drying right now. Previous very small test smokes have been very promising (my girlfriend and i both laughed til we cried). Still planning to run it until it's purple...but it's getting purpler by the day.. 5-7 days more maybe.

:yoinks: Dr Bloom you have such a great stable there to select from. I bet its hard to choose what to smoke with so many different flavors. Ill be watching wishing I was tasting

Nice setup man! I was wonderin how you keep the heat down, I got a closet run with 1 600hps thats air cooled with a 4in vortex that vents into a differant area and my temps still climb up to about 90 degrees.. Also like ya choice of strains, perpetual definitly the way ta go.

Hey GETMO, nice to see another cali grower taking a look.
My hoods are not aircooled, and since my cab is only 4ft tall, it is pretty hard to keep it cool in there. I manage pretty well, though sometimes my cab hits 90 degrees too.

Anyway, I mostly use a high level of airflow to keep the temps down. My box uses one Solar & Palau TD-150 (about 300cfm) to exhaust both the veg and flower rooms through a carbon filter.
I use Black PVC to bring air into the floor of the box. I made sure to have the air intake on the complete opposite corner from the air exhaust. This makes sure that all the air is being replaced often, keeping heat form building up. A small fan in the room also helps with this. Also, make sure that the air that is being pulled into your cab is from the coolest spot available to you in that location. I try to aim for a 5 degree temp difference between the ambient air in my room, and the temperature at canopy level.

I'll take some pictures, they should explain things a lot better than I can.

One hell of a setup, Doc B. Props to the photographer:yes: May need instruction as to how I can be like that one day. How's that F13 turning out? Looks mighty tasty. Good job, bossman. K+

Photos of the setup, and an update

Many people have asked about the design of the box, so here it is.

This is the top of the box. Left to right: Can filter, inline fan, ducting box. Flexible ducting runs out of each room and into the box (painted black on the inside to avoid light leaks from veg to flower).
All cords for the system go to a heavy duty surge protector (outside the shot the the right).
picture.php

Flower room door. On top is the ballast and the can filter. the closet doors are slid all the way right, covering the door the the veg room
picture.php

Flower room inside. The walls and floor are lined with Panda plastic for light reflection and water resistance. Everything but the G13 is in 2 gallon pots.
You can see the Flo (day 2), SFV OG Kush scrog (day 4), G13 (day 69, tallest shown) and the corner of the Cherry AK 47 scrog (day 2). To the right is the Sour Diesel (day 38), which isn't visible because of the angle.
There is a cheap thermometer on the back wall with the bulb hung at canopy height to monitor the temp (usually low 80's when everything is as it should be), and another on the wall outside the closet. Air intake is through a black PVC pipe on the lower left, and exhaust runs out the top right through flexible ducting.
picture.php

Veg Room. Closet doors are slid all the way left, covering the flower room door. 250 watt light. Air intake is again black PVC, this time on the lower right (exhaust runs out the top left). Temperature has been a non-issue in this room.
picture.php

the larger plants are (clockwise from bottom left) Purple Urkle, Flo, SFV OG Kush, G13, F13 (quite small and cranky at the moment). Seedlings have moved into the veg room now that the larger vegging plants have gone into flower. They are C99 (mostly to the top right), C99xSSH (lower right), Herijuana, Golden Sour Kush (the really fat leaves are the GSK's. one is in the middle, the other lower right) and (smaller) Fire Master Kush (red pins, right in front) and Blue Moonshine. the C99x CaliO was culled because it wasn't growing at all.
picture.php

As for the flowering plants.
F13 have both been cut. the tops came off first (~65 days), then the rest yesterday (69 days). Total yield for the two will probably be an 1.5-1.75 oz, which was about as good as expected from these relatively low yielding plants. This is what one looked like yesterday.
picture.php

The Purple Urkle is coming down today (70 days). This plant has had some issues with powdery mildew, so it's been coming down in sections--anything that was getting too mildewed just got chopped. the main branches are all still intact, though. It's been sitting out in the room for the last couple nights with windows open so that the cold (50 degrees outside last night) will encourage it to finish purpling.
picture.php

The G13 is still flushing in the flower room, but will come down in the next couple days. It's been the most resistant to the powdery mildew, so it's going a bit longer than the others and will hopefully be a nice nighttime indica knockout.
picture.php

The Sour Diesel is coming along nicely, will try to get a new picture up soon.

great pics .

will the purple urkle turn purple in the end or is it actualy not a purple strain , or is it just this paticular 'pheno' that dosent turn purple ?

Forgot to mention.....

Forgot to mention.....

The Sensi Star has also been chopped. the smell is strong (mostly sweet, but the scissorhash smelled like cleaner after sitting in a small space for a bit). Unfortunately, the yield was nada. Tons of resinous leaf, but very very little bud. pain in the ass to trim and while the bud is good, it's not enough to be worth the effort. the clone of this plant has been culled.

to show what I mean, here's a before and after of trimming one of the 3 main branches.
picture.php

picture.php

Total yield is TBD since it's drying, but if you look at the picture of the Purple Urkle above.....There is a greater volume of bud that has been taken off that plant (on which all the largest buds are still intact) than from the ENTIRE Sensi Star plant. Cali clone genetics for the win, apparently!

It goes purple at the end of flower (someone who grows it a lot said 70 days pretty much guarantees purple, and this appears to be true). You can't see the purple from a distance, but looking closer at the buds it becomes apparent (there's a pic a few replies up, but it's gotten more intense so I'll get a new one up. It also appears more obvious in the dried bud than on the plant). the color started developing at maybe 55-60 days and it becomes more colorful by the day. This is also in a flower room that has been getting as warm as the high 90's and averages in the low 80's--not exactly conducive to purpling.

Judging by the fact that a lot of purple urkle in the dispensaries seems to be non-purple and marked just as "urkle", and the fact that this plant didn't look at all purple until pretty late in flower, it seems likely that a lot of people cut this plant too early. But that's just an educated guess.

edit to add pics:
picture.php

picture.php

honestly, the purple is far more obvious in person.

update and exciting additions

update and exciting additions

Purple Urkle and G13 are chopped and drying (both were cut around 70 days). final yield still TBD on both but should be good. pics once they are dry. The G13 was a spectacularly easy trim, with very little excess leaf (the total opposite of the Sensi Star in every way).

picture.php

This was the smallest of the 3 major branches on this plant.

The Sour Diesel was underwatered and is cranky, but here it is at 42 days:
picture.php

picture.php

seems to be behind where the last round was at the same time, hopefully it's just slow.

the big news of the day, though....CLONES. Picked up DJ Short's cuts of Flo and Blueberry from a dispensary this morning, along with a UK Cheese cut.
picture.php
(the three in front)
picture.php

they went right into pots and into the veg room. the large Flo that was in veg is getting moved out along with the runty Herijuana seedling, making room for the 3 new pots and a 1-gal for the G13 that was outgrowing its small pot. Once that is rooted in its new pot it's probably going into flower.

Seedling update!

Seedling update!

the new cuts in soil:
picture.php

that would be Flo, Blueberry and Cheese L-->R

big fat seedling update:
C99
#1, 2 and 3 are nearly identical. #4 put out seedling leaves and a couple odd/mutanty leaves but now seems to be growing pretty normally. The hope is that one of these will be a good male.
picture.php

picture.php

C99xSuper Silver Haze
these are BIG.
picture.php

picture.php

Herijuana
this is a strong and branchy plant. The other Herijuana was runty and has been removed.
picture.php

picture.php

Golden Sour Kush
these are (malawi goldxflo)x(sour diesel IBLxOG kush). Both are tight-noded, fat-leafed plants. #1 has some variegation, most visible on new leaves.
picture.php

picture.php

the second round of seedlings, Fire Master and Blue Moonshine
Fire Master
these were found in a sample of Fire Master Kush from a dispensary that was more than good enough to make the seeds worth trying. they aren't as fat as the GSK's...but they're also about 2 weeks younger.
picture.php

picture.php

Blue Moonshine
The first set of leaves on this plant were crinkled and mottled, but it seems to be growing out of it. there is still some variegation on some leaves...all the seedling pics had to be color-corrected since they were taken under the veg light, so it's hard to see. Two of these were started, but the other never came up.
picture.php

picture.php

and just for kicks, a packed bowl of very pretty Purple Urkle from the plant that finished a week or so ago. it's a very pleasant smoke with no harshness at all and a "creeper" high that sneaks up on you 5 minutes later and makes you giggle like an idiot. pretty good stuff....and looks like there's about 1.5oz of it.
picture.php

We (this update and many others are actually brought to you by Dr B's photographer/grow apprentice/girlfriend; I enjoy photo editing and uploading more than he does) are now on a 2-day smoke break for tolerance-reduction purposes, so that we'll be able to more fully appreciate the excellent results of the last round. It's all just about dry, so expect some dried-bud pics in the next couple days.

They came from Green Angel in Malibu, and they are cuts from DJ Short's actual mother plants of Flo and Blueberry. He passed them out to the med community a couple months ago.

@Vash: Thanks! (from us both) glad to be able to share a little of the cool stuff going on over here. Wish I there was a way to "photograph" the smell...

Update

Update

the C99, C99xSSH and Herijuana seedlings have been topped (the tops are in rockwool. once the clone roots, the corresponding seedling will be flowered to test sex and quality).

C99's (numbered 1-4 from left to right)
picture.php

picture.php

C99xSSH 1 & 2. #2 is much branchier at the moment.
picture.php

Herijuana. also a very branchy plant.
picture.php

Not yet topped are the Golden Sour Kush (too short and fat still) and the Fire Master Kush and Blue Moonshine (too small/short, they're younger). New pictures of them are in the Feb 19 2009 album, but they haven't really changed much since the last pics. just bigger. and the Blue Moonshine's stem is turning purple.

a few new clones have gone into soil: G13, Mazar and ECSD. MzBloom is experimentally bonsai-ing a clone of the non-DJ Flo, since it's expendable if it doesn't work out. A Grape Ape clone finally rooted today after weeks of nothing, so it will be potted in a couple days.

Flowering room update:
Sour Diesel is at 50 days today. plant looks awful because of an accidental underwatering, but the bud is stinky and sticky and the yield should still be decent. Probably has another 3 weeks to go. Flo is at 13 days and already starting to bud. Cherry AK-47 scrog is also at 13 days but going slower. SFV OG Kush is at 16 days and showing pistils. the scrogs have had all unnecessary growth removed at this point, leaving about 20 branches on each. Next thing going in will be another G13 (the dried bud from the last plant is excellent and getting better by the day). it's soon to be transplanted into a 2-gal, so probably flowering in a week or two. There's a vegging Purple Urkle on deck after that, or else the tester seedlings, but by that time the Sour Diesel will be about done...

Also of note: turned the box of trim from the last round of plants into iso-hash for a total of about 6g. Six grams of basically free hash. which makes a nice addition to the several jars of bud curing in the cabinet.

You already know me....

You already know me....

Hi everyone. finally got my own handle, though I'll still be posting most of the grow pics under Dr. Bloom's name for consistency (it is his thread after all!).

Dr B is the visionary; I'm the assistant, waterer and photographer. And now I'm the keeper of the bonsai Flo...my little side project so we can maybe have bonsai moms in the future.

Happy to see everyone here, and thanks for all your compliments on the photos. They're all taken with a 5yo 4megapixel digital camera, nothing fancy.:joint:
