best place to retire in california for mm growing and medical care?

idea

i know someone who is going to retire pretty soon and is interested in moving to ca.

this person knows about all of the downsides to life in ca but does not care because the mm laws there and the mm culture there are very important to the person. most important, money is not an issue.

but access to good quality medical care is also very important. also she does not care about the weather as all of ca's climates are appealing to her.

so where should she be looking?

based on what i have read so far about county growing regulations, mendocino, humbolt, and sonoma look like the most liberal in terms of canopy area and the like, but i am not sure about the medical aspect. are there any sweet spots with all of the above and decent land and cost of living prices?

Advice-

Advice-

Skip Siskiyou county. The sheriff has said (on the record, in the newspaper) that he will bust even legal medical growers if their plant(s) even LOOK like they could produce more than 8 ounces. That alone is enough to eliminate this county!

But on the "fun" side of the local news- a Mt Shasta City councilwoman (!) just got busted with 34 pounds of pot in her possession during a massive bust (32 people) involving all sorts of folks from high school students to the councilwoman! This ought to be a jolly local scandal! :noway: (Heavens! I'm glad I keep my head low and I'm not a social butterfly/party person! Being a "mouse" has a few benefits.)

I got a chuckle out of the council woman story Granny. Not because someone got busted for this harmless plant we all love but that someone from the “privileged good people” was proven to be no different than the rest of us and probably as a hypocrite even though I don’t know her but the type.

yeah deff the mendo area is the mellowest as far as letting you do your thing, you can get your recommendation from just about any county...there are med mj docs all over the state. If money is no issue, thats where I would check out.

Northern California tends to be pretty rural. The traditional growing areas up north (Mendocino, Humboldt, Shasta, Trinity) aren't the most exciting places to live if you like city action. The Bay Area is by far the most tolerant urban area in California. San Diego is probably the least tolerant. So if you like your pot and you like the city life I would recommend San Francisco.

Which is it?? It does make a difference--
If I was to retire right now, altho I have always lived in So Cal (well...I have lived other places, but not in Cali) I would choose to live in the Bay Area-- But it is very expensive up there-- My second choice (for us po' folk...would be Riverside County-- Cheap land/houses...and tho the cops may be dicks sometimes...it is too open, and not enough of them to see it all-- I like it here anyways--:yeahthats

Nevada county is a pretty nice place. Real estate is relatively reasonable and it does have a small-town feel to it, but one is not far from major metro areas, the mountains, and Lake Taghoe, so it's not too podunk. There are quite a few bay-area transplants, so the the political climate is leaning more to the left (the congressional district here voted majority democratic in the county even though a republican won, but by a very narrow margin). Grass Valley and Nevada City are pretty cool.

Check out Santa Cruz County. Good Medical and pretty liberal on the amounts too from what I have heard.

Yes Indeed. I can't remember what the ballot exactly said, but i think it was around 2-3 years ago, and the county (or city) of Santa Cruz voted to make Cannabis virtually "legal". In fact, it is considered to be more of a "crime" to j-walk in SC/SC county, than to posses cannabis. Also under the passing of it, if you are to get busted for possesion/cultivation/ the case must go infront of a certain council of people and those certain people must come to a unanimous vote on whether to decide to go ahead and pursue legal action against you. And if they decide to pursue legal action, the money which is used to put you through the whole process of arrest, jail, and trial, MUST come out of the budget of the COUNTY of Santa Cruz's funds.

There are lots of liberal places to live in California, but in reality it's all up to you to decide where you want to live. I will share some info with you, the OP. Alot of Northern California (like really north as in past Ukiah) people are really private and like to keep to themselves, family, and tight-knit friends. I do not say this in any disrespect, because i have close family in Fortuna, and Eureka, and this is what my family has told me, and this is what i have picked up on from my experience being up there and around them. You could say that they're not to excited when outsiders come around, ecspecially the ones who think they can just move to Humboldt County and become rich from growing a crop. But, this is obviously not you so you would not fit in to that category.

My point is, in my experience, from having spent time in both the Humboldt area and now living in santa cruz, i've found SC is alot more welcoming to newer people. If your a cool, legit person, you'll have no problem fitting in here in SC. I'd say come live here in SC. Until today, for the past two weeks its been in the 70's here.

Good luck with whatever you decide. :joint:

love cali...but now new mexico has legalized 83 mature plants for nonprofit patient caregiver.

cali genetics and a winter home in new mexico...ya retire in style.:joint:

somewere in norcal..way norcal.

I'd say consider city of oakland, there are some nice areas to live and its 72 plants per patient, 32 square feet, but you could get an exemption on square footage limit if you need it. You should also realize that the validity of plant limits outlined in Senate Bill 420 is questionable because SB420 has been found to unlawfully amend the compassionate use act (prop 215) without voter approval. Oakland has a fairly long history of tolerance to medical cannabis.

Soooo many places I like around here it would be hard to choose just one! College in Chico, Berkeley, Stanford! Liberal attitude of the whole Bay are but especially Oakland and Berkeley. The ocean from Monterrey to the Oregon border has counties that are MMJ friendly! The foothills from Big bear up to Burney and beyond! Mountains on both sides of the valley! Lake co, Mendo, Napa Wine area, Sacramento and the capital! Lake Tahoe area! How can you choose!!?? The abundance of world class genetics everywhere! Outdoors man's paradise!

Most co will have similar legislation on the books so just check out the MMJ sites that provide that info per county.

Is the LA basin anything to consider?

Such a big mass of suburban sprawl
with so many small fenced in backyards
in the perfect climate. It also doesnt seem
quite as conservative as San Diego.
