Flavoring your Buds with extract?

T

TwinTurboGuy

I know this sounds crazy, but I haven't seen much info on this subject. Is it possible to flavor or add aroma to your buds with extract? I've read that it can really enhance the flavor such as adding vanilla extract on the last days of the cut.

I don't see much harm considering that extract is just alcohol and flavoring. If its safe to put in our food, then why not?

While Mary Jane does taste good, not ALL mary jane is tasty......
Yes you can flavor your buds... BUT not with extracts...
You can flavor dureing the CURE process citrus (the best i feel) or vanillia beans...
Put in a cheese cloth and in with your cureing buds make sure NOT touching... Burp as usual... Keep a eye out for mold...
Do a seek and you will find more info... GOOD LUCK pax

i seriously doubt any flavoring you put in the soil would translate to the buds...

some people claim that moleasses has a sweetning effect but i haven't noticed this

Dont you get all that 'sweet' stuff with different flavourings? - we dont get it here -

Appaently that makes your bud smell like 'citrus' or 'berries'. You are smelling esters - no, not the one in the bible....

Esters are compounds consisting of a bond of a acid and a base and gives fruity flavours to beer, whiskey, ect. Wicki will tell you which ester smells of what.

Personally, I do not know how long an ester would last in the soil - I think the microheard will make short work of them. Maybe synthetic esters would last longer...

Look at the thread The Old Man has started:
http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=108781

Maybe in a commercial setting it would benefint the grower to flavour dull smelling bud, but at the end of the day, IMO, smell comes second to effect... If I were to buy great smelling bud, but it did not do much to my awareness, I would probably give it a skip next time.

Maybe you should just keep on looking for that strain - the one you really really like - then you will not have to fork out more money to keep your nose happy!

Nah, molasses is just carbo-load for plants, doesn't effect the flavor.

As to the flavoring, no. If you want different smells/flavors in your smoke, find the right strain, not the right extract.

fdd2blk has a thread on RIU called "Color of my Dreams..." or something like that. What he did was right after trimming the branch off the plant, he set the stem in a cup of about a 1/4" of food dye and about 6" of water. You can dye you buds, but he says they taste like crap.

But flavoring them is also discussed in the thread. Although fdd doesn't actually try this, tons of other people talk about trying. If you do decide to try this, then only try it on a bud or two so you won't ruin your whole crop if it doesn't work.

Strains that change color when the temp drops can be enhanced to change more rapidly if you hang them in the fridge over-night, just after cutting the branch from the live plant.

E-liquid is a flavoring that is safe to smoke containing nothing more than water, water-soluble flavoring(s), and propylene glycol (vaporized in an e-cigarette to create a vapor resembling smoke). Nicotine is usually included because it is made to refill e-cigarettes, but non-nic liquid is just as common.

The stuff is pretty cheap and is safe. I wouldn't add pre-chop and dry, but before rolling or packing one it could add a nice touch to some blah weed. Plus if you add tobaccy to your bowl this is a carcinogen-free alternative.

Once (recently) used a pickle jar to cure some dank as I had no mason jars around. Although I had washed it out thoroughly, I was in for a surprise. Turns out the lid retained quite a "dill" smell, and imparted this to the bud. MAN, don't ever use something like this...weed stank big time, and "Kosher garlic dill" is NOT a complimentary aroma!. Buds tasted ok, but I could barely get past the smell (smoked it all up, though).

Now I'm repurposing Yankee Candle jars which are great. Nice wide mouth, good seal, and it still gives off a very soft scent (like Sunflower, or Vanilla Cream). Again, doesn't change the taste, but the faint scent is a yummy diversion. OK for yer private stash, but I sure wouldn't buy anything that had such smells though.....

Agreed, reefdoggie. I used pickle and salsa jars with similar results in the early days. Not pleasant.

I imagine water curing with extracts might bring about something interesting, but in my mind thats about the same as just dripping diluted vanilla or whathaveyou onto your product; you might end up with some greeasy smoke.
