I have used Sony 845(8.1mp) and DCS W170 10.1MP Both of these camera's did not like very poor macro shoots on both and the 845 is not user friendly. The 170 is very easy to use just bad macro's. So I did a bit of searching and found a Nikon p80 10.1mp with 18 digital zoom. Focal length for macro is 2cm. I hope I made a good buy here. I have read that Nikon takes the best Macro pictures. I should get it Friday. I will be posting with side by side comparison so you yous that take some of the best pics I have seen can help me with it.

I have been using a kick ass little EyeClops Bionicam that is a video microscope. 100x, 200x, and 400x - it has a nice 3" screen and images are stored on a little portable drive. awesome... need to upload some of them since i deleted the old gallery

Nikon only, baby!

Nikon only, baby!

I use a Nikon D700 SLR.

With Adobe Lightroom 2.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS4 it's just about heaven!

I love Adobe Systems' products - the best around.

I have read that Nikon takes the best Macro pictures.

I guess it depends on what camera model/rings etc for what purpose that you use, in comparison with an equivalent of another brand. Although, I believe most photo buffs generally prefer Canon for superior macro equipment.

I temporarily use Canon's G9, which is their flagship compact camera in terms of image quality and manual workability (well, now it's the G10, just out).

I can set just about anything manually with it, and the macro can go as close as 1 cm/0.4 inches. The only other compact cameras that can rival or outdo that are Ricoh's Caplio cameras (which I also got... yes, I'm a gadget geek), as far as I know.

Although, if you take it that close, the built-in flash is not going to do a great job, so it's better to use a separate flash. I find that the image quality in combination with the image stabilizer is so good that I don't have to go that close, I simply blow up high rez image instead.

So far soo good...

update I took some pics and OH my god what a difference. This Camera is way better then my W170. I will post the pics I took of everything and you will see. This makes me very happy as I have been looking for a camera that will do what I want. I still need to learn all of the bells and whistles but right out of the box great photos. This was 150$ online when I got the w170 it was 299. The 170 is off to ebay lol

Bought a Canon G10 day after xmas went it came down $90.
Still going thru the learning process w/ it. Much more into having a compact than a DSLR, and this one is one of the top compacts.
I temporarily use Canon's G9
Rosy, why temporarily? What does the future hold?

Ok I was very ahppy with the Nikon P80 but I want more controll. So I returned the p80 nd replaced it with a D90 DSR with AF-S VR 105 f/2.8G IF-ED lens. Im very exited about this camera it is my first DSLR and did aloot of reading and researching on what to get. The Nikon is a outstanding DSLR camera I got the lens that does both normal wide angle and macro. The P80 I got will be returned it has only been 3 days I spoke to the sales person and there was no problem.
