Oxy-clean is definitely good for very difficult stains where you have to let the Oxy-clean sit for a few hours. Although most stains are better for Iso and salt. You can also heat your Iso a little bit which helps a great deal.

Oxy-clean can leave streaks and what not. So the trick to this is use Cascade dish soap with a bit of water to give it a sparkling clean look.

I'll use Oxy-Clean when I'm out of Grunge Off, but I like to heat the water till its boiling first. Also have seen it leave a white film layer on the bottom of ashcatchers, so I'm not sure...

i'll be damned if i am putting some chemical sold on TV at 12:30 in the morning by some sleazy car-salesman type guy in my bong.

iso and salt. its cheaper and works better in my opinion. cleans my bong right up in 30-40 seconds.

you can get some simple green and put it in a bowl for all of your pipes,,,downstems and bowls. you just leave it in there and then wash it out with hot water. if you dont want to use simple green, you can go pay 4x the price for the same shit called 420 orange or grunge off.... you can leave your shit in the bowl over night,,, by morning it is spotless....no fuss ,,,, no muss.

for everything else 91% ISO and salt......



jsut about anything in a head shop is already available by another name.. usually for 1/2 - 2/3 cheaper....

It's all good,personally I think ISO is a weak solvent.I hit all my shit with either Acetone or Naptha,less work,melts the grundge Faaaaast.
I load my own shot,so I pour a half teaspoon #9 shot in the piece,shot of Acetone,shake like 20 seconds,rinse hot water.......sparkly
If ya spray any body parts,the sell MEK(Methyl Ethyl Ketone)its just real good acetone,but it cleans shit wit a quickness.

Grunge off is the ticket, re-useable, toxin free, and i got a nice little container where my slides and diffys soak for like 20-1 and then there spotless. takes me literally 5 minutes to clean my binger and a/c ive seen some peoples bong that has resin so caked on it took more than a day of soaking to get off... ewww so nasty

except grunge off is about $12 for 8oz or so,,,and simple green is around $14 for a gallon.......

I have been a Loyal ISO user for years. I tried Oxy-Clean several years ago.

I liked it for my tubes... The foam is kind of cool, it will just foam up with speckles of resin

Recently though, I actually went to the dark side...bought a couple bottles of 420Cleaner because they were on sale. I spend about 1.60$ per bottle of 91% ISO, 2.29$ at walmart for a large bottle...

$9 for two 'medium' bottles of 420cleaner, have cleaned out 2 new jars which previously came with pemientos in them....which is THE hardest smell to get out. Alcohol and then Bleach, both didn't take it out. The 420cleaner at a friends house however...did.

Anyways, I have a LOT less glass than I used to. Gave some away, some were broken over the years :|

I can get one pipe clean with an average bottle of ISO, my bub clean with 1.5 bottles.

That's about 4 bucks per cleaning for two pipes.

I'm expecting to clean at least my pipe 5-6+ times with one bottle of the 420...



So... after years of trial and error, being the glass lover that I am... I'll say the following methods are best. Effectiveness & Cost/time effective.

Spoon or other dry piece - 420 Cleaner for 'Deep' Cleaning, ISO for 'quick wash ups'.

Bubblers of all sizes - 420 or ISO. I would personally rather use 420.

Tubes - Oxy-clean - Slowest method PERIOD

Also, another thing I have ALWAYS hated about ISO is the smell/taste of the pipe after you rinse it... It always has a nasty water/glass/resin type of taste... You should know the taste.... 420Cleaner leaves a slight hint of scent to cover that smell, and this reason a lone is enough to try a bottle...

again, I have been an ISO purest forever, often trying to convince others not to buy 420cleaner.... well, I was the ignorant one It works damn good, cleaner process, faster...leaves a nice light scent to mask water/glass/resin smell...

It's crazy that it takes you a whole bottle for a pipe. I can clean my pipes easily over 30 times with one bottle of ISO plus some salt. Maybe it's the amount of resin you let build up or something? I don't let mine get smoked out of maybe more than 5-6 times before I'm cleaning them. So my math comes out a lot different than yours on the cost of the different methods.

Wow 30? How? That would require at the very least 30 fl oz... The big bottle at wal-mart is probably around ~40 fl oz. I know people on Overgrow who cleaned like that, but I didn't think they would get that many uses out of one bottle... HashBoss,who I thought came here after OG was closed, was a freak about cleaning his glass... daily cleaning, every tube he used, and between he and his friend, they had a very very very nice collection of California ROOR.. Some were custom made for them because they knew the guy... I've only felt jealous about a few peoples collections on Overgrow... one was HashBoss(and friend) and the other was Bubbleman and his sick collection of MarbleSlinger glass...

I do let it build up about 2-3 weeks, sometimes more.

I'm lazy with pipe cleaning. So if you're not lazy and regularly clean pipes then my prior post isn't for you Hell I was even lazy with my MarbleSlinger doubler, but I cleaned it about once a week... I'm lazy about it because I don't grow or have access to a constant supply of good pot. More or less just smoking for anxiety or I wouldn't be smoking period. So...taste isn't that key. Unless I get my grubby paws on something worth taking an hour to clean a piece...then we will take the time to clean it.

OxyCleaning bongs made it easier/cheaper to clean more frequently.. Just drop the powder, fill and let it sit overnight.

Also I read earlier in the thread about corks for 18.8mm joints. The best I have found is the Cork/Top from the Belvedere Vodka bottle, the cheaper one that costs $20~ It's very nice for 18.8mm Perfect fit with a 'softer' cork...very gentle on your joint

So go buy a $20 cork and have yourself some damn fine vodka


Edit: One warning about OxyClean, Do NOT let it sit long enough for water to evaporate. The OxyClean becomes like a super glue film that sticks to your glass. I don't know if it's washable, because it happened in my glass hookah. That being said...I have tried warm soapy water and then 91% ISO and neither took it off....

'Lint B Gone' long reach brushes, looks like they were made for bong

Iso + Salt + Shake Shake Shake + Rinse + Refill = Less than 5 minutes for the bong

Use a ziplock bag with iso + salt for the pipes but they take a little longer

QFT.. acetone works really well compared to acetone.. though acetone evaporates cleanly, I give an ethanol rinse in case of contaminants (for the rest of the paranoids out there)
