sorry to change the subject but has anyone heard of or have one of those quantum 3 in one ballast? one e-ballast will run 250,450 and 600 watt lights in both mh or hps,its kind of iffy sounding on having a dimmer switch on a ballast and a built in fan too, I've really thinking bout upgrading on my lighting situation lately and was thinking of gettin one of those lumatek ballast but a 3 in one would be way cool what ya all think?

I would say go with the highest wattage you can keep cool. The 600 would be optimal. Personally, I wouldn't waste time with a 3-1 ballast, I would spend my money on proven equipment...just my :2cents: ;-)

ha! yeah spo it happens to me all the time but yeah just one pump, this whole project started off as a kit i orderd from stealth hydroponics.com (rip off),it came with 2 45w cfl's,timer, one air pump,a 4" air disc (which was cracked on one side)the irrigation pump and manifold to feed each pot,the 8 gal tub,4" pots, rox, 6-1" cubes, and nutes it was a start,i wish i would have found this site before i orderd that damn kit i could have built a way better set up cuz i already had the 400w MH $220

Its ok...live and learn. Yeah those kits have the right idea, but as you now know you can make them for much less $$. Also, I would suggest in your next grow that you only grow 2-4max plants in there...even though it has room for 6, you will find they will be very crowded and become 'root locked'. :smoker:

If you're on a budget, get another mag ballast....they work just fine.

OH i have way different plans for my next grow project, this was just a test grow to see how it works and what sort of madness my mind will create, mind you that im a machinist/fabricator/rc nut/mad scientist of any hobby i get in to so cannabis cultivation is like another hot rod build, there's many of parts and accessories on the market but its putting the right combination together and dialing it in that makes it superior and rewarding i for sure cant wait to make a grow diary of my next grow from day one build to smoke reports of many strains

You asked about scrog screens, just keep it simple. Some 2x4s, screws and all the big box hardware stores carry metal screen netting coated in plastic. Just staple the screen on a frame. Hope this helps.

Mr.Thumb,
When you started this thread you asked for any comments so heres my thoughts, hope you don't take it it me being critical of you.
It looks like you are having some root funk problems and wondering about your nutes.
First I would try to fix the heart funk problems. Blocking all light into your bucket and tub is highly recommended. Cover in Panda film, or aluminum foil tape. Anything that block all the light. Your res temps look good just increase the bubbles a little. For nutes you need to figure out what your nutrient profile is. Here is a good site http://www.angelfire.com/cantina/fourtwenty/articles/profiles.htm
I wish I would of understood how nute profiles worked years ago.
Once you get on tract with a balanced profile all kinds of headaches disappear and it becomes really fun. Ballasts go with the conventional or the Lumatek. Both are proven to work, and it the kind of thing that sucks when it breaks. Lumatek have a much quicker start time (which saves on bulb life), and dont have a large initial draw of current that can trip breakers. They do cost more though. Hope this helps.

I have to second checking out your bubbles. Maybe take a pic?

Two one inch stones for such a big rez seems tiny. I use two one inch stones + one 18 inch stone in my 18gal rubbermaid.

Shouldn't matter how large they are. I am actually convinced that the smaller ones put out more DO that the larger ones...IMO :2cents:

Definite female and the others you showed look make but wait, maybe make seed.

You might be right spo about the small stones, it makes sense that for a given volume and pressure there would be a limit to effective stone size and the larger stones would probably just put out large low surface area bubbles. But my 2 outlet 4w pump runs all my stones well as long as I adjust with a regulator valve.

For an 8 gal thats probably fine, I'd be enough for my 10 gallon fish tank easy.
