Buying a growbox

hello all... i'm looking to purchase a growbox. specifically the 3-in-1 box from homegrown hyroponics. now I've heard... "ahh, build your own box," yadda yadda... I cant without having an electrician come in and add a breaker. 6 amp current draw with a 400w mh is awfully sexy... i'm curious to know if anyone has one, and how well they are doing with it. as well as what kind of strains grow best, i'm thinking sea of green as my grow method... any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! thanks!! and stay hIgH!

I have a few friends going to amsterdam, and i was gonna have them go to greenhouse seed co... a few of the strains I was looking at were Alaskan Ice, Trainwreck, White Widow, or Hawaiian Snow.... yes, no, maybe???

Could you ask them to add the extra electrical and you'll pay for it. Chances are they'll say it wouldl void their warranty. If you explain that you'd need to change it to work for you and you really want it hopefully they'll work with you.

If you can plug-in whatever box those people sell you, then I am sure you can build something similar for way less money. Nothing magical about the way a pre-built box uses power vs. the one you build yourself.

Looks like overpriced junk with half-assed ventilation to me. That little axial fan is not going to cool that light properly for growing in such close quarters, I've seen the same problem with the BC Northern Lights Bloombox.

Check out the DIY sticky thread here.. I bet you can have a kickass little cabinet built out yourself for way less money and faster than those jokers could even ship out the pre-made one, even if you need to buy some tools to make it happen.

So strain-wise.. Forget about the Hawaiian Ice or any other mostly sativa strain. Build it yourself or buy it, you'll be dealing with height limitations and will want to run mostly indica strains until you have a good feel for your space and method of training. Even without the height limitations, I would still recommend you start with a hybrid or indica strain.

The White Widow would be a good choice from the ones you listed.. Some good feedback on the Trainwreck too.

Lots of other seed companies out there though, I'd poke around seedboutique.com and see the variety to choose from.

Amen! I started growing in a very confined space and can tell you that you'll have enough to worry about without hitting week 4 of flower and realizing that your plants are growing into a lamp that can't be raised anymore. Also, assuming that you're new to growing, an 8-9 week flowering cycle will let you learn your "lessons" in a more timely manner. We all learn quite a bit our first few times around until we get in the groove of a dependable routine. If you pick a long flowering strain, you'll just be watching your first mistakes flower for up to twice as long, when after 8 weeks you could be starting over again with the knowledge you now have from your first go-around.

I know you don't want to hear it, but if you can run a pre-manufactured cabinet, then you can run one that you built yourself. They aren't using anything special that reduces power consumption. Regardless of what you choose, have fun and tell no one!

a closet is a box already built!!! i just had to haul some stuff off to grow in mine its 26 inches deep 5 ft long and 8 feet high. with sliding doors, works great, and to quote self reliant tell no one, i've had a couple friends that pilfered my bud, I was just flabberghasted when i discovered that.
