Did any of you all collect 'green stamps'?
My mother & I used to really love those! Every time we got back from Piggly Wiggly we would sit at the dinning room table, count out our strips of green stamps and she would have me "lick 'n' stick".
Such excitment to go through the catalog and see what we could buy!
I even remember the black rotary dialer on the cash register for pulling out the magical stamps. :woohoo:

lickin those damn things made me sick, but for some reason it was exciting.

Aloha!

Aloha!

I am new here, but apparently not new at all.

I qualify as not new based on the number of autumns I have seen and my answers to and the recognition of almost all of the posts on this thread.

While I am absolutely not new I freaking refuse to be old.

As to the fart part, well ask my wife :)

See! Just now, S&H Green Stamps. I got a string controlled Cox P-51 Mustang airplane with S&H Green Stamps. We had two redemption stores in town as I recall.

Why is youth wasted on the young 'uns?

Still not Old!

Remember Eule Gibbins' phrase: "They taste like wild hickory nuts" Remember the product anyone?

Bought a JVC stereo system in 76. Best sound still today and I still have it in the play room.

Thanks for the memories guys.My Mom is still using her stainless steel cookware set we collected with green stamps through the years. Not sure if that quality is still manufactured.

Chuck Barris?Heh,I still laugh at the unknown comic squirting beer from his eye hole.Nipsey Russel and Bill Cullen on To Tell The Truth

Diamond stylus mean anything to you guys?

I saved my break money (25 cents)every day for 12 weeks to buy this box .Oh,from Gibsons,I believe.Still works, though the felt turned to powder the last time I listened to them.

One of those tapes has a 2 hour special King Buiscuit Flower Hour that my brother recorded from rock 99 out of Atlanta on the morning Lynard Skynard died. It's eerie hearing the updates every few minutes on the status of the surviving members.
Peace

8 tracks! Funnier than shit. Track stopping right in the middle--twiddle thumbs-- song resumes.

Man I just had to bitch out some arrogant punk on Groe Room design,
Cheap co2 htread. I wouldn't object to any Old Farts posting there,
to support This Old Fart. I tried to be civil, spoke common sense and still
some punk decided to name call.
Can't stand arrogant assholes who grew up most of thier lives with 300 cable channels and info a the touch of a button.
Hell, I learned chemistry at the library, book by book.

Yay Green Stamps! Anyone remember Dad replacing the tubes when the TV went out?

LOL. My Mom decided one day to turn the old TV into a bookcase, forgot to unplug it and when she messed with those tubes....BAM, blew out the power for miles around....hahaha....she swore us to secrecy...I think the statue of limitations has run out though....

Hah! Yeah but tubes are where it's at for certain functions.
Ever heard of a whizzer?
Niel Young is so against digital tech, that he had his guitar tech make a mechanical knob turning devise for his Deluxe (Fender) Reverbs that turn the knobs physically using servo or stepper motors!

Now THAT'S analogue!

Hey Lola, (always loved that name by the way, since the Kinks) it's amazing the number of things and people that you never notice pass out of the culture....
green stamps, or maybe Paul newman. (rip).
We just ahve to take what life has handed to us and be grateful, even with the downs and ups.
I can't ever be happy while Israel murders mostly innocent Gazans and Pals
and our troops kill for Israel in Iraq and Afghanistan.
I know I will at least be a learning soul, by not being able to be happy while these conditions exist in this world.
I've spent a wwhole lot of mt life locked up for dumb shit, and now
I just want to help those children and innocents who are being victimized
by our tax dollars.
I'll die a happy man, if any of itt made ONE persons mind up.

Picture tubes?!! You mean TV's don't have them anymore?
Hmmm...never even thought about it.
I remember my dad was always behind our big ol' TV(you know the kind----almost as long as the living room wall & heavy as a sofa) messing with "the Goddamned picture tubes!!!"

Remember going at least once a month to buy 45's at the music store?
I loved our 'Music Store'. Local head shop/music shop/ black light posters(and room).....always felt like I was so cool when I went in and hung out in the "black light room", then left with my 'hit of the week' 45.

Oh, and my roach clip bead earrings.

It was probably the manual horizonal/vertical control. My Dad did that too.

One day when I was 5 years old...(1954).. the TV started acting up....well, I had seen him reach inside the back of the TV and fix it. He wasn't at home...so I decided I would do the same thing.

I reached inside and got the shit shocked out of me. It clamped my jaws together so tight....my teeth hurt for a week. I'm lucky my tongue wasn't in the way.

Nope,no more tubes. The phasing out happened in the mid eighties. My tv/radio repair class at the trade school became electronics, and I became a guinee pig in my senior year, proving high schoolers could actually learn solid state applications.
But the old sylvania replacement tubes can still be found.I know quiet a few people who still use their cabinet model tv/hi-fi's.A couple of them have high quality woodwork on the cabinets and costed well over $500.00.Heh,I haven't seen the phrase Hi-Fi in years.Stood for high fidelity, correct?
Peace
@Pinball Wizard.Dang dude,Lol.If memory serves, you prolly got hit with about 330v,maybe 2 amps?Easily enough amperage to stop the heart.
