Keeping SOG alive during vacation . . .

I currently have the start of my prep going. First set are 5 weeks in. I do not want all my hard work to goto waste as I will be leaving for 6 days in 5 weeks. With my planning I will be hanging to dry for the five days on vacation come home to homegrown.

My concern is keeping them alive while away. I water roughly every 2-3 days drbud style.

Would I need to install a basic drip system, or could I water then leave 2-3in of ph water for them to rest in?

I just want a plan down now so Im not rushing around in a month freakin out.

Unless you were planning to invest in a drip system anyway, I think you will be fine leaving them in water. Ive done this before (not dgb style) and they suffered very little. Since you have a decent amount of time before this is an issue, you could perhaps do a practice week, to make sure they dont dry out while observing them. Remember the further along you are the greater the demand for water and nutes. Good luck and happy growing!

I mean you could set up a automated drip system for less than 20$..I would do that rather than drowning them. I mean they will survive, but its not good to do that to your plants. What medium are u in?

Dont think that a few inches of water for a few days will drown a plant. Ive done it already for a week with little ill effects. I will agree that a drip system is a better way to go if that is something you want. Me personally, I like to hand water my plants. Really enjoy being a hands on person! Also, when away I would be fearing equipment failure till the second I got home and checked on them lol. I have bad luck like that, and my shit dies, and I start all over again. But thats just me.

Squeeky: I am in a very similar situation. In a month or so I'll be leaving for a week and I'll have small plants that are usually watered every 2 days or so (they're in 16 oz containers). What I've been experimenting with are some self-watering things purchased a while back (incredibly poorly photographed below). I have used them on several herbs and houseplants, as well as a couple of re-vegged males that I hung onto for experiments like this one. I'll be trying them on MJ girls in the next week or so and I'll let you know how they work. They keep the soil moist, but so far never soggy.

Best of luck whatever you go with,

If you have a little airpump with airstone(s) laying around, you could aerate the
water to minimize risks maybe?

Good luck

Strangebird is right. You need to airate the water so that the the roots aren't just soaking in oxygen dead water. Using an airstone will allow the roots to use their capillary action and suck up the water, otherwise (without the airstone) you could induce root rot on your little girl. If you set it up this way you can leave your plants for a week easily in their bubble bath and you will come back to some healthy looking plants. This is how dr bud leaves his setup when he goes out for a few days also if my memory serves me right. This is much more simple than creating a whole drip system.

vacation is only 3 days away, currently i plan on having two containers each holding 8 bottles, putting a layer of r/o water with airstones.

how much water should i use, i will be gone for 6 days. They got fed tonight so I would be dunking again before i leave. Should i not water and just place in the tray of water?

You could easily set up a watering system. You can buy a battery operated watering timer that screws onto a water spicket buy one of those black dripper hoses kits and you are golden you can set the timer for once every few days for whatever set of minutes you like.

Thanks Doc,

I knew if I asked enough questions I'd get a reply from yourself. Glad to see you back in action. Thanks again for all the inspiration. 3" of water it is.

Well I got home last night to some very dry plants. Those in the my mom cab which was on 24hr were crispy I think I'll be able to salvage 2-3 out of the 6 vegging. The clones that I had in the ice cube tray cloner were going strong. All the water bed had dried up, but it was as they were searching more water for the roots structure seemed well.

As for the flower cab that seem to be going good. A little dry but I don't think I'm going to loose any of them. All in all since I just grow personal it was worth the week in Mexico it was amazing!!!!

I did have a some buds drying in my dryer which were extra crispy, placed in a jar in hopes to cure and bring back some moisture.

glad to hear that it worked for you. Im in the same situation, and will be leaving for 3-5 days and i think i will be doing the same thing.

Someone gave me this link to the Water Worm. I think rolling with something like this is probably the best/safest route. I know I'll be picking up a few of them for sure.

i like that idea jawnroot, but would cost alot more for a set up with lots of plants in 24oz bottles, but would work great i bet for only a few plants.
