600W HPS -correct distance to plants?

Hi,
I have my first indoor grow going, I´m using a 600W HPS for veg and flower (growing LR2 and Kwazulu). The plants are doing quite well, the LR´s are starting to flower and the plants are on 12/12. What distance is optimal for this lamp? I´ve tried 60cm but then I get heat issues (have an oscillating fan + inline fan) and no growth in height.
Thanks!

18 to 24 inches unless you incorporate a cool tube!! peace djxx

I think the lamp is about 60-80cm´s from the lamp so I should be good. I´d really like some more stretch to the plants though so maybe I should still back off a bit?

don't back it off if they are doing fine, it wont do much to the stretch anyways, they'll be happier with more lite!

Basically you want the light as close to the plants as you can get it

I dont recommend anything above 30 c/86 f at canopy level.

I also use a 600 W hps and that bad by raises my room temp by 10 degrees c easily withing a minute, let alone canopy temps.

Get yourself a thermometer for your canopy and try and get your light to a point where you have a canopy of around 25 26 c / 78 f ish.

If you cannot keep the top of your hand at that distance without feeling the heat, your plants will burn.

I would invest in a cool tube or another style of vented reflector

The cool tube sounds like an option I´ll be looking into. I never thought it would get that hot as the incoming air is between -12 to +4C.

Running out of bud so I need this grow to finish in record time...
