Well, Im getting ready to start building my first cabinet.
Heres the problem. I just placed an order with HTG for their 150w HPS remote ballast system and Im thinking about canceling it and ordering a bigger light.
My living situation requires that I do keep it somewhat stealthy. I have no basement or anything otherwise to put it in. I need a cabinet, and a scrubber is a must. My live in gf has her parents over from time to time, theres no real reason for them to go in that spare bedroom, but if they happened to for whatever reason I just need it to pass someone coming into the room for a second or two. I need the cabinet to be not to big. Size is somewhat of an issue. Ideally, a 2'x2'x3' cab would be perfect. However, if I HAD to I could probably stretch to a 3'x2'x4'.
Heres the problem. I paid $90 shipped for the 150 HPS. Honestly .... a 250w hps would be perfect I think. The thing is a 250w HPS is $140 shipped. I already bought a 400w HPS for $140 shipped from them. So basically a 250 costs the same as a 400. These are remote magnetic ballasts with batwing reflectors.
Like I said the 250 is perfect, but I have a hard time paying $140 for a 250 when I could get a 400 for the same price. Problem is.... I think that 400 would be way to hot for a cabinet in the demensions I need to stay within ... dont you think?
I already have a 400 in my spare bathroom growing tomatoes, that thing heats up the whole damn bathroom! I could put the ballast outside the cab to help though.
Any input Im open to suggestions. I need to decide tonight basically cuz if Im going to cancel my order and order a bigger light it needs to be done tomorrow morning asap. One thing to consider, I will be moving in about a year and then wont have to grow in cabinets at all and could really use the larger lights at that point.
