Mikado crosses

Well my story begins like this I bought a pack of Mikado seeds in 2001. I started a couple of them, I can't remember how many I started that time. I ended up flowering the ones that turned female and threw away the males. I later moved my operation to a new location and started my remaining seeds. I kept a male this time and let it flower with a couple of females in the room. The results are what I'm smoking as I write this. I had a male of Purple Diesel(Purple Kush x Sour Diesel ibl) and a male of (Triple OG Kush x Double Purple Doja f2[Spudnik#1 x Black Russian]) that I collected the pollen from to put on my Mikado f2. I just dropped a few from each cross in the water tonight plus a cross of Blue Moonshine x Triple Doja, so things should be getting exciting in the months to come. Will update with pictures when they pop. The goal of these crosses are to bring the finishing time of the kushes down a bit but keeping the powerful highs.

Back in o3 my 1st strain to grow out was Mikado from Federation and have been hooked ever since. Loved the stuff now running some cannacopia stuff. Sounds good.

Mikado is a slept on classic and that is why I named myself after it. But these crosses should be even better than all the parents.

From what i understand Mikado will finish flowering in about 45 days... is this true? I have never tried it, but those who have all tell me its very potent, high yielding and relatively underrated as a phenomenal strain. It must also be great for breeding projects if it does in fact finish in 45 days.
Let me know how those crazy crosses work out for you mikado1

It is ready at 45 days if you go toward 49 might start some bananas. It is very potent and not that easy to clone her. Plants will need support when they get about 18' in veg. so flow. is a must.

I quite like Mikado myself, however, you're quite right about their hermie tendencies. I have never crossed them with anything but considered doing so with Malawi Gold. I'd be very interested to hear how these crosses of yours turn out. You've certainly got some interesting genetics mixing there!

I grew out three Mikado inline f2s earlier this year, and was very impressed, although none were remotely close to 45 days - more like 63-70, although the guy that sent me the seeds told me there were no fast-flowering phenos in the seed-packet lot either. They were all accidentally pollinated by a female JLo (Kentish Creme X Flo) of mine that turned hermie, so I have lots of seeds, which could prove very interesting.

The plants ranged from grapefruity through strawberry to a really spicy herbal cough-mixture, and were all very potent, though I didn't find them particularly couchlocky. There's pics of all three phenos here:

Thank you qanabose. Now here is a couple of picture of my f2 in flowering for 14 days and she is coming on with speed like always. She is about 26" tall right now and looking for her to be ending at bout 30". I also put a little Blue Moonshine pollen on her lower buds.

I've got Verites holy grail going (link in sig) its said to be made up of mikado and C99, going well in DWC so far!

I did a search here and on google but didn't get any hits on what makes up mikado. So what is in the federation mikado?? I really want to know!

Elevator man: your pics look VERY much like the growth structure of a topped ribbonstem durban I grew once.

I got the impression from somewhere that it was an incrossed Sweet Pink Grapefruit project that originated from Breeder Steve in Switzerland, but I could be wrong. The Big Book of Buds mentions it but just says it was developed around 1993. Verite used it as one half of his Holy Grail cross, so maybe worth checking that thread for more info?

I've read through that thread at least 3 times by now I think but I guess it could still be in there and I just missed it. I'll probably just search more.

I've got a Mikado cross the Crown Royal. It's been very nice and it's got a great flavor and energetic effect. Not sure how much like the Mikado it is but it makes me want to try some more Federation varieties.
