Well, it could add weeks, but that is not the real concern.
Firstly, your roots may be slowing down, thus may never reach the capacity of the container, that will lead to "sour" spots in your soil, from moisture/nutes sitting too long
And the amount of stress applied to the plant is not beneficial.

It can be done, and I have done it myself, but planning ahead, and knowing what you want to do with them from week 1, will prevent this from happening

hi,
dr dog is right. i have done this before and here is how i do it...i found that doing it this way causes little or no stress...

it all depends on the pot though...if you use the thin pvc pot you just cut the bottom out and sit the plant on top of the new pot...i would not disturb the roots at all if possible...

i guess this is double potting..

yup if your roots are growing the plant is concentrating there. Not on the buds.

i thought if you did not have root growth you could not have top growth?

or is it just that you have the roots needed to finish the plant and any additional roots would not make any diff?

i was thinking that the roots needed to grow till death..

They will continue to grow, but not at the same speed as needed for veg. So basically what takes a couple weeks in veg mode.(ala roots coming out drainage holes). Could take a month while in flower.

I have done it before without any noticeable effects. but they were mainly sativa dom plants, but I have also gotten burned by it too. My advice would be to suck it up and work with what you got. you now have learnt for next time.

while it know its not recommended, if one were to transplant during flowering, how much extra would it add to the flowering time? a week?

I did this a while back, with a haze x, left it a bit later than the rest,it flowered, not very good yield though, but turned out to be a stronger and better smoke than the others.
