Premise
I hear a story from a friend of a friend that he needed to have his bong repaired and sourced a local glass place. He brought it in, still with crazy resin in it, and was immediately rejected and told to clean it with Oxy-Clean. I never saw before or after, but apparently it cleaned it well enough to have a glass place repair it.
Let's put it to the test!
Supplies:
Dirty pieces -
Oxy-Clean - ~$7.00 for 52oz
Hot Water -
Plastic / Metal ~32oz Container -
Cork of standard (750ml) Wine bottle (for bongs only) - $10 for some Spanish Quater :]
Let's do it
I used this stuff
Small pipes/bubblers/etc.
Basically any piece you can fit into some sort of plastic or metal container that is ~32oz and tall enough to emerge your piece.
I dilute it a little less than their methods, so about 1/2 of the scoop in the Oxy-Clean container to your Filled 32oz container. Scale down for smaller pieces. Scoop Oxy-Clean in container, then fill container with your hottest water to above the piece. Set it and forget it. Come back in 30 minutes, use the hottest water your hands can bear and wash / spray it out at the sink.
Bonggggs
These are a bit trickier. I ended up taking a two pronged approach.
For the main perc chamber, I pull off the bowl and downstem and cleaned them just like a smaller dry piece as per above. Put in maybe 1/2 scoop of the Clean in, filled with the hottest water. From here, cork it and give it a few shakes. If your bong has multiple banana tree percs, some of the water will go up there. Refill the main perc with hot water, cork it, and shake it. What your looking for here is for the Oxy-Clean to start foaming up and pushing upward through the percolators, or if you have no extra percs, just straight up the pull.
The other method, which I do right after I finish the first part above, is to pour 1/6-1/4 scoop down the pull and then squirt hot water down. I did this because my bong has the main perc, 2 banana trees, a water-pull check, and ice notches, so this cleaned the top parts while the bottom worked its way up.
Check on it every 15-20 minutes after you get the foam going. See the advice section.

A few bits of advice/trickery to give:
1. You might get better luck sticking to lower doses of the clean. HOWEVER, even if my mixture didn't foam, it cleaned the shit out of my pipes. And I mean crystal-fucking-clear. For the bong, you need the foam action, and that ratio is a tricky one to dial in.
2. Try adding more water, adding more Oxy-Clean, giving it a shake, or just giving it a good inside/outside wash with the hottest water you can stand. Often the Clean will break it up enough that the hot water'll get it.
3. This leaves no chemical/residue/nasty taste and amost eliminated the resin smell. There is still a resin smell ever, ever so faintly. Perhaps a more detail rinse would help, but I gave them a good 3-4 minute shower. Maybe some ISO would help
