Is my water "quality" good for hydro?

Hi,

have been a "longtime" lurker, and finally my housing situation has changed so I can grow :jump:

Preparations have bug and I have gotten a hold of a pH/PPM/EC/Temp reader for my setup. Tried it on some tapwater which I will be watering with. Got these numbers:

pH: 7.1
EC: 0.18
PPM: 120-130 (I would have guessed 180 since EC is 0.18)...

I an good to go with this right?

I think you are fine. You may want to have the water checked and see what that 120 PPM consists of but I think you are OK.

yamaha_1fan: The water in this area is "good" in all standards. Good drinking water, and very closely monitored. I will try it out, and if things "fail", keep a reminder to check it out if suspect.

Plan on using the PH formula ;) Also know as Lucas. Time/Plant will show if I will use additives. But I gotta start out simple.

Actually gonna start a growthread as soon as I get some more equipment. For the time beeing I have:

pH/PPM/EC/Temp monitor
Waterfarm
Controller
Lumatek 600w purple
600 W MH
600W HPS t-sun
Aircondition with seperate in/out
2 x 16 amp circuts (220V) installed by electrician.

On shoppinglist:

Homebox XL tent
Cooltube
+ all the wiring and tubes

And of course a good clone :rasta:





Yes, I know it's insane for 1 plant. But thats all my better half allows, and time will show if I get into "treemaking". I just wanna grow, have fun and great smoke...

My tap reads pH 7.6 and EC 0.5 (ppm 250-384) If you're worried there are hard water formulas out there but, I don't bother so I doubt you'll have you.

When I bought my house I chose it because of the water.There was nicer houses outside the city but they had well water.It stunk and tasted bad.My city water is 6.0 ph and EC .02 never changes.

Damn!!!!!!!!!!! Did you say 1 plant!!!! I am definetly signing up when you do post a grow thread. I would love to see what you can produce with that type of wattage and 1 plant. Hey if thats all she will allow then go with a 40 gallon bucket. She will soon realize that you have outsmarted her. Grow that mothertrucker HUGE.

What are you waiting for to start???

Where would one look to get water tested to find the composition of dissolved solids? DPW?

Hehe, yes I have thought about that ;) But I am not gonna grow in anything larger than the waterfarm. I feel that the intention would be broke if I set out with a 40 gallon :)

But I am definitely gonna try to get a SCROG going. Have gotten a hold of the screen already 3ftX3ft (1m X 1m). 1 plant topped 2 times and long veg should look nice under 1 x 600W MH/HPS

Since this is first try I am gonna keep things as simple as possible until I see I can stabilize the system. Then venture into unknown waters...

I have seen prof of systems with a decent sized plant in waterfarm. Hehe.

I went shopping yesterday and got home with the Homebox XL (http://www.homebox.net/dhtml/product_family_homebox_xl.php ), a coolshade (http://www.indoor-growing.de/cool-shade-reflektor ), 1 x 125W 6500K CLF with a reflektor (for the clones), the nutrients (3 part Flora series, 3 because he threw in the last bottle), pH UP/DOWN, calibration solutions, clone box (simple). So now I have everything I need apart from hydroton and a nice clone :)

Luckily a good friend of mine will come up with a clone soon, and until then I have loads of carpeting to do... I have teared down a wall that is not on the drawing to make it 1 room. Now I am gonna cover that room in plastic. And rig everything up. If things progress nicely I will start around the 20th (on vacation until the 29th :joint:

I am also waiting for a computer-controlled power-rail. I have expertize in computers and I am looking forward to gradually build a computer-controlled system/environment.

I am psyched. Lol.

Fred looking at your diagram do you have an option to place the carbon filter outside your tent at the end of your fan, and bring cool air in from the other side of the tent?

Might not need to but it might give you some additional room in the tent and some added cooling.

Just a thought.

Thanks for input. Yes, I could do that. Then I would be taking cold air and blowing it into the tent. But the hot air would also be blown into the tent. Not sure how that would work out.

Another thing would be that the tent would have overpressure and the smell could go out. But then again, the filter would take care of that I guess.

I will have to try both setups I guess :)

The diagram was drawn in Microsoft Office Visio 2007.

Actually your intake would be the same. The air would just blow across the light from one end of the tent to the other, and scrubbed at the end of the exhaust line after the fan. So pushed thru the filter instead of pulled.

Thought you might like a little extra room in there.

Looks like a damn fine ScROG to me. Your res reminds me of the first time I saw the NGB cab. How can people see roots like this and not want porn of their own? If I weren't already doing DWC, your pic would convince me.

Thanks for the pointer JAB. It's a great "guide" for a newbie like myself. And my grow is gonna be the same style (hopefully).

Today I cleaned out the last remains of the room and drove it to the dump. 450 pounds (200 kg) worth of material that used to be walls and shelves. I'll post a pic of the room as soon as I have it vacuum cleaned.

I live in an old house, and this room has not been done anything to since 1979. It's shitty as hell, but it's perfect for what I am gonna do. It was easy to convince my wife to "give" me this basement room :)

I just got my hydro stuff in the mail, tested my tap water and the digi stick is reading 90ppm and ec of .2

Is that good bad? Anything I should know/do special with my watter? Maybe add cal mag?

Edit: PH reads 8.3
