Time to show sex

M

moses224

In the decade iv been messing around with growing iv always determined sex by flippling the lights to 12/12. I have a surplus of Mazar-I-Sharif and want to get a nice mother. That said when should a plant show its sex under a vegging enviroment 24/0. Thanks in avdance for input.

Below are current pics of a few at 20 days from sprout out of ground

I don't have personal experience with sexing under 24/0. With a 20/4 or 19/5, i've always been able to sex by week 4 from seed pop at the latest. Most strains sex by week 3 from seed pop. Earliest sex from preflower was day 12, superskunk.

I,ve tried everything to try to show sex in veg..but alas the only way I can do it is to go 12/12 for about ten days but it seems to hurt the clones and in trying this several times i ain,t havin much luck..Think i,ll try the 20/4 or 19/5...I always went 24/0 ..thanx if this works for me...I know it takes time.......I,m not giving up...

18/6 light cycle because shorter duration favors development of female plants (like other factors such as availability of N, cooler temps etc). I wait 6 weeks to increase yield. I look for preflowers and alternating nodes as an indicator of maturity and readiness to be sexed / lights flipped to 12 /12.
Sexing is "the moment of truth" where you hope for the best and prepare for the worst! The best being all female and the worst being all male!

The only times I've seen a plant show flowers in anything other than 12/12 was outdoors in July/August.

Just get a magnifier, i use an eyelupe 7X. Anyone can sex a plant in veg by examining the preflower. Takes practice and a good eye, but is very easy and fun. No need for alternating nodes or 12/12 or much else. Less than 4 weeks, for sure. I'd bet a 24/0 schedule would do it too. I use 20/4 veg because i think my plants like some dark time not for sexing.

I get signs of sex normally after about 4 to 5 weeks of veg, not all of them

But a good majority of them will start showing me very small preflowers. It is normally very easy to distinguish between male and female parts, but when they are very young, I dont cull them right away. I have been wrong before on early sexing.

There is a High Times mag a few issues ago, that has an article from Ed Rosenthal, that talks all about sexing and has some very great pictures. It is the issue with the homebox on the cover, not James Franco.

I mean the sex sticks out like a red flag. Iv never had seeded buds. I was just curious how long under veg as I have always switched to flower to reveal nads or skirt.

Normally I start to see them at about 4 to 5 weeks, but I normally will drop unknowns into flower just to make them knowns

Moses- You're not looking for pistols to sex preflowers, those come much later (week or weeks). Start looking after a couple weeks of veg at the area where branches extend from the stem. At each node where branching occurs are blade of grass appearing growths that are called bracts, i believe, there are 4 at each node, one on each side. Look behind the bract and in front of the new branch to locate the preflower. If inexperienced, you might think new growth is a preflower, but it is seperate from new growth and will start almost like a pimple or bump. Usually at or above the fourth node you'll see a preflower. Many times it's only one or two, but if you are diligent and have the magnifier, you can easily spot them early. Learning to differientiate early may take practice. I remember when I was practicing, if not sure early would move suspicious males to outer light and move possible females into better light, until positive. Males generally show first(not always), and will be rounded initially at the end and will have a stem appearing to attach from the stem to the ball. As the "ball" matures, it starts to have a crab claw effect appearance, where you'd want to see pistols from the female. Early female, can't see a stem to stem attach, appears connected and appears pear shaped not rounded or crabclaw. Basically, if preflower comes out rounded, it's male, if comes out pointy it's female. That's when you see them right away.

They are twelve to fourteen inches and today is day 30 since they popped out of soil.

They are very vigourous, thick foliage real dense, and so far nute sensative.

Hope that helps a little

Good luck

helps a lot...thanks

you say they're nute sensitive? how so? what nutes are you using? when did you start feeding?

the reason i ask so many Q's is that i never even heard of this strain, until i got them as freebies...sorry for the trouble and thanks again...
