I like having the packaging...
over the years of collecting vinyl (sold it all in '89 for top $), CDs, & now DVDs I've grown accustomed to having & reading the liner notes & credits, yeah you can find them online but having store bought makes a collection hold its value.

Last yr a friend was stricken w/cancer, times were tight & so I decided to sell my Zappa CDs on eBay to generate a donation to him, it was only because I had the originals & OOP Japanese discs in excellent condition that I was able to do this. yeah, I ripped & burned the CDs for myself before selling them.

I'll put up pics of some of my DVDs later.......

I bow in awe at Sirgrassalot's great taste. You sir, are a class act. I too own much of your collection. have you checked the wikipedia list of cool war films, it's pretty good.

Really, the whole point is the packaging. Also, I don't care what any of the nerd patrol says, Bluray rips, are not as good as a Bluray disc. I have seen both, and nothing compares to a Bluray on a 1080p TV.

Stoner4life brought up his LPs. That is a collection. I have downloaded the discography for almost all of my favorites, but that is not a collection. It didn't cost me anything to download all those, but Stoner4life has invested money into his collection. You can't help your buddy by selling off a MP3 collection.

I download only movies, that can't be found on netflix. I also download instructional videos, and such and store them on HD. However, as far as DVDs, I like store bought copies. I can take them, and play them in various rooms, or take them with me. You can't load up your external HD, on the way to your girlfriend's or whatever.

Granted, I am all about media computers, and Mp3s and shit, but the actual store bought copy, will always be better...

So I wanted to go and buy The Dark Knight on Bluray...Of course, a family member already got it for me, and now I have to wait until Christmas. crap.

I don't have a DVD collection. I have a movie pass from Blockbuster. Last month I watched 123 DVD. Not a record, but for 29.95 a month. It's an awesome deal.
