waiting for the pollen :)

Well i guess this should be moved to the breeders lab.

So I cut my male JLP-sdxog's yesterday - 3 weeks 12/12 and put the stems in a glass of water. And now im beginning to think they'll never drop any pollen?
Is it possible that they havent maturet enough to produce pollen?

What do you think? hope someone can answer this...

nobody? maybe i should take them out of the water and let the pod's drY?

Looks good.
I suppose that what I see, is the stems with male flowers, put in a glass of water, to sustain them, while being away from the flowering females; thus alowing for easy and hassle-free colelction of pollen - I'm I correct?
Never tried that before... can you elaborate a bit about the technique: how much light, what light periods can be male branches be kept under etc..?

Bonequicha:
Do you suggest waiting for the male flowers to ripen, and then cut the flowers right before they open and release the pollen, and then dry them out? Sounds like an interesting way to extract pollen without pollinating an entire crop of females - but how do you get the pollen out from the pods?; do you wait for the plant material to dry, and does that effect the quiality of the pollen?

Thanks for your time and for starting this interesting discussion ;)

hey mushuthewhale.. well haven't tryed this method before, i saw this technique in the "cloning in plain water" thread

i just keep them in the bathroom window. - the reason i did this and not just an open pollination was , as you know the male flowers grow faster then female flowers = less seeds, also you can save some pollen for later use this way :)

So far only 3 pollen sacks have released pollen :D ive taken them out of the water as Bonequicha suggested, we'll see what happens - this is only 4 the fun of it :D
Peace

Dude/duddess we used to do this with male preflowers,,, :

and with full on bloomers,.. :

With whoppers like those they should spit pollen for real... no problems star

Make sure they don't get too warm,, we found the flowers keep fresh when cold (cool) for some reason... just like any other cut flowers

Hope this helps..

hey docleaf:D great pics... are you drying those preflowers, or just letting them sit in water like the "full bloomers" ?

yo

No drying,,, maybe mistreated in another garden,,, maybe transpired in travel,, little stress,, still spit out lethal :biglaugh:

We cut them,,
wrap the branch in damp tissue (in transit),,
re-cut the branch with blade clean,,
place into water fresh-i,,
keep at 15-20c,,
paper underneath dem catch pollen

It's just a natural process ,, mans been doing it for years n years sein  :D

THanks a lot for all the usefull information. It definately looks like something I'm going to try; I actually have a g13hp male that is going to be subjected to a similiar experiment. Usually I've been using a clear plastic pag to entirely cover the male, which is absolutely not the kindest treatment for the plant, and obviously works best on trimmed-down or very small males.
I'm very interested in any similiar technique for acquiring pollen, without having to resort to a seperate chamber/mass-pollination. Especially since I'm currently doing a micro-thing, but still don't want to miss out on the breeding.
