Act II - In Search of my Mothers

¡Hola!

After what was a brief hiatus it is finally time for me to start on grow #2.

My first grow was very unfocused, a search for knowledge on how to cultivate this great plant. Fortunately for me it was quite successful as far as experience and yield go. It also gave me my first Mother that I have since affectionately named Fuckup, I'm still trying to get my cloning technique down however.

This time around I decided that I needed to finally use some of the seeds that I had received like 4-5 years ago.



Currently in rapid rooters I have...

(4) Nirvana - Northern Lights x Big Bud
(5) Nirvana - AK-48
(4) Nirvana - California Orange Bud
(3) Seedsdirect.to Freebies - Who's y' Daddy
(2) Bagseed - Sweet Tooth

I am hoping that out of all of this I may be able to find 1-2 Mothers. Ideally I'll get a pheno of each that I will want to keep alive as a Bonsai Mother.

2 are already seedlings, 1 of the AK's and one of the WyD's. As more get to the seedling stage I'll put some pics up.

Honestly I am very interested in the WyD as I really don't know what to expect from it. I can never seem to find any information on the strain so I'm walking into this one totally blind, and that is a little exciting.

The Sweet Tooth came from a friend of a grower. In the bud she brought me was 2 seeds, 1 dark and 1 white. This was the sweetest pot I have ever tasted in my life so I have no reason to believe that she was lying about it being legit Sweet Tooth.





I really want to have a nice set of mothers to rotate through so I can have a nice variety but more then anything else I am hoping for atleast 1 pheno out of all of these that I can use as my medicinal strain. I have been suffering from a lot of pain for varying reasons as well as having issues with insomnia lately, maybe from the pain.

Anyways, these next few months shall be quite the journey. Thank you for coming along for the ride.

That's the Fuckup clone that came from the first plant I grew. Its mostly a sativa and a big yielder. Very hard to manage indoors unless you utilize LST early.

I forgot to mention before that I put these into soil today. The AK doesn't look to great at the moment, hopefully it will turn it around.

I'm sure you will get at least a few good moms from this run.

I'm looking to increase my selection of moms as well. I'm going bonsai too (in coco) . I have a 5 year old Nirvana Ice mom that I just axed after the clones rooted. I'm also growing Nirvana AK48 from seed in hydro. They are some of the most vigorous seedling I've ever seen. Eight beans = eight strong looking seedlings. Six have been in my new nft/aero rig for 2 weeks. All look good, a few are looking great. If I was dialed in they would probably be blowing up right now.

I grew nlxbb 4-5 years ago, but the Ice just dominated the room so didn't keep a mom. It was my 1st grow though so they suffered through the learning curve.

An AK48 seedling going from aero cloner to nft/aero. It was less than 2 weeks from seed in the pic. So far they have outdone any of the 3 other strains I started at the same time.

The WyD is still slowly coming along.





Out of the seeds I had my first Sweet Tooth pop today.



Really hoping this one lives and is female...that bud was awesome.

Hope you're Sweet Tooth is a girl! What nutes ya gonna feed them? Lights?

I don't think my AK's look good because of my skill. I could fuck up an anvil! Actually, I think they were good fresh beans and they really liked the aero cloner. Also, I use no medium so the roots seem to develop fast.

For nutes I have...

Advanced Nutrients:
3-part (Grow, Micro, Bloom)
Mother Earth Organic Super Tea (Grow & Bloom)
Liquid Carboload

Grandma's Molasses - I prefer this over the LC for the extra Cal/Mag it adds.

I use RO water and will run these in soil/perilite for the beginning atleast. I'm sure I'll run 2 of the plants in 5 gallon DWC buckets but I think adding too many more buckets could become a big hassle. At most I'll run 4 buckets and the rest in soil.

The veg light is a 250W MH, when I go to flower I'll switch over to my 400W HPS and cool tube. With my last grow heat was a major problem and I had to keep the door to my grow room open just to keep the plant from cooking. Also this was July/August and daily temps outside were averaging somewhere from 85-90 degrees even in the middle of the night so its not like I was getting much help on that end. The cool tube should keep everything a lot more manageable.

My Who's y' Daddy seedling is really starting to take off in comparison to the AK48 seedling. I am starting to wonder if it is going to survive.

All the seeds are starting to come up although a little oddly. I'm going to just keep letting them do their thing and take care of things as they come up.

Got a few of the seedlings in soil now...most of the other seeds seem like they're not going to germinate. My first AK48 seedling is a goner, and another that popped also seems to have halted around the same stage of growth.

Looks like these seeds are not very viable which isn't suprising to me since they are so old. The WyD is the only one that I am not concerned about at this time.

Well every one of my Nirvana seeds have either not germed or stopped where I had last pictured here. Pretty disappointing but I'll just have to adjust my plan.

I have been very fortunate with my Who's y' Daddy seeds with 2 of the 3 seeds germing and growing out pretty well.

Since I have had the good luck here I secided to try a little harder to find some information on the strain and I was finally able to come up with this.

A room full of Powerplant clones was pollinated with different male plants from 5 different varieties in the same room...

...hence...'Who's your Daddy Mix!'...


...the guys were....Soma's New York City Diesel.......Stella Blue from Bluebird......Chocolate Chunk from Adam........Warlock from Magus Genetics....Apollo 11 from Brothers Grimm...

I have 7 of these seeds left and I am thinking that I will plant a few more in place of the failed Nirvana seeds to increase my chances in finding a good mother.

My Sweet Tooth is also doing ok.



Low humidity has been a bit of a problem and some of the leaves are curling up a bit. This is much more prominent on the Sweet Tooth then the WyD which doesn't really seem to mind the low humidity at all. For the meantime I have rigged a humidity tent that I put onto the Sweet Tooth for 6-8 hours a day and that seems to help.

I grew out some of the WYD a few years ago when I got them as freebies. Some of the best weed I've had the opportunity to grow and smoke but I have no idea what it was. Hope yours come out AAA+++

Humidity is no longer an issue. I put a vaporizor in the room and am now sitting between 45% - 55% regularly.

I had to do something about the size of the Fuckup clone so I decided to start a little side project over the holiday.



Here's the clone after her cut.



If I am successful I am thinking about keeping one of these clones as my mother and planting it into a smaller container to help control height. At that point I'll probably flower out the current mother and chop her.

As long as I get more erb like this I'll be happy.

The seedlings are doing well so far, really hoping to see some good things come of those.

The side project just made sense seeing as I have a bunch of those containers just sitting around the house. Cloning via Rapid Rooters has been almost a complete failure for me so I figured it was time to give this a try.

I messed up making the holes in the lid so this one only supports 4 cuttings. When I have the correct tools I am going to make one up real nice that will have 8 sites for cuttings which should more then cover my personal necessities.

My germ rates on the AK48's were 8 of 8, the Big Bud was like 3 of 8 (I was kinda bummed) and I just popped 7 of 7 B52.

That AK48 in my earlier pic it a total FREAK! It's twice as big as the other AK's and almost as big as my Ice clones. I hope it's a girl!

Yeah I really shouldn't have sat on them for so long. Its not a total loss as I still have AK, Cali-O, and Durban Poison seeds left to atleast hang a glimmer of hope onto.

I also still have 1 AK seedling that I am trying to baby along. Its growing very slowly and kinda mutated but I am hoping it will still live. If it continues its growth I'll get a pic of it up maybe this weekend.

That's awesome about your AK.

Sounds like you got a sativa leaning pheno there. Is it side branching much? If it does it'll probably grow out similarly to FU which would be great for yield but can be a big PITA.

I'm working with limited space and with anything that tall I need to use plenty of LST. I think I'd rather my AK seedling, if it lives, be an indica leaning pheno as I just don't want the hassle.

Hoping that we both have girls all around.

Actually it seems to be a true indica pheno. It's about a foot tall and prolly over 1.5 foot wide with no topping or fiming! It a good looking plant for sure. I'll have to snap some pics.

On a side note, I'm out of bud til harvest.... I have to make some bubble hash to get me through.

Nice, I'm jealous now. Hopefully it is female and you get some nice smoke off that. I'd love to see some pics of it when you get them up.

I got a snap of my mutant AK seedling tonight.



I feel your pain about being out as this is all I have left from my first harvest.



I also have some mids that is barely getting me by here in the meantime. I have to get a perpetual system setup this time around so I don't run into this issue again as this stuff is getting so expensive and the quality is dropping every year it seems.

The plants in hydro are starting to take off. I'm just waiting for the roots to start poking out of the net pots so I can get rid of the drip rings and change over to DWC. At that time I'll make up a fresh solution which will be a bit stronger then what I'm currently feeding them. At this point I'm also going to start some LST on the plants, especially WyD #1.

Hopfully I can get that done before the end of this weekend.
