What's new

Same Strain. Same size. What stretches more in flower, clone or seedling?

Hey guys, this is the first thread I've posted, just wanna say whats up to everyone and let everyone know I've learned a lot from this forum.

I got a quick question. I just finished a micro SOG from seed, and I took clones and made mothers along the way. Now I just started a new grow with clones I made. The thing is, I know how long to veg this strain from seed to finish 1-2" from the lights, but I'm unsure whether the clones of the seed plant would stretch more or less?

Thanks guys

depends on a ton of variables, given equal size and equal treatment they should be pretty close to even.

high levels of N can cause a plant to stretch more, even getting your system dialed in can cause more stretch if genetically the plant wants to stretch

Depending on which strain it is as well as which pheno:yes:,
i've got an NL#5xHaze here where the seedplant is a big stretcher when put into flower,
but the clone i took from it hasn't stretched too much so far,
(vegged the clone for around 3-4 weeks, now on day 19 of flower), it's only around 50-65cm,
where as the seedplant stretched from day 1-19 of flower approx 100cm,
seedplant pretty much double the stretch of the clone in the 19 day window

I have always noticed that clones seem to stretch a little more than the same strain from seed. I don't know if this is true all the time, but with the strains I have grown it has been the case. It might be due to the seed plants having one larger main cola and with clones the symetrical look of the plant becomes a little more asemetrical.

Given that the clone is well rooted into its transplant soil (final container size) my plants tend to stretch at a pretty close rate. The only time the clones didnt stretch as much was do to my errors (not having in large enough pots, transpanting, not having sound roots in final planting medium) That said as long as they are rooted and in proper containers you should see relatively no difference. Just my 2 cents.

thanks for all the advice guys. I was hoping they'd be pretty similar, I'll just keep my eye on em and flower em when they look "ready".

The last time I grew sour diesel from clone the stretch was not as prominent as the original mother.

I was also under the conclusion that you were supposed two vegetate clones a little longer than the original mother from seed

Maybe it was something in my environment that caused the difference between the clone and the seed mother

In my experience, clones always stretch less, from barely noticeable to much less.
My clones always have shorter nodes & speed up in all areas from the seed mother.

hmm, with the original seed plant, I vegged for 14 days from the time the cotyledons popped from the dirt, and the had about 4-5 nodes but were about 3" tall when I flowered them (cfls kept the nodes super tight in veg). Now I've got pretty small cuts in there, about 2" cuts with 2 small nodes. I was planning on vegging them for about 12 days, seeing where that puts me, and flowering them. I just hope I get it close...

thanks guys and peace

The biggest difference should be that they'll be faster.
Clones bypass that slow stage from sprouting through their 3 finger leaves, when they kick in they go :)
On stretch in budding, I'd say... the same to a little less.

My previous comment was more overall on larger plants. My clones always end up with shorter nodes & bushier than the seed mothers, they're 2-3 ft though.

cheers
