Reeferman's Original Love Potion#1

Evening everyone, hope the high's are enjoyable. Haven't been able to do a smoke report lately as I'm currently not growing, but I can give a smoke report on this cut of LP#1.





Sorry for the crappy camera pics, all I could muster at the moment. Anyway, the seeds came from RM, the first time they were available to the public, shortly after he won the cup with it. This is the selection I kept from the half pack or so I grew out. Some were giving to a friend to grow outdoors a couple years ago when I could'nt. Unsuccessful

This particular sample was grown outdoors this year by another friend with minimal help from me. I've run this cut indoors as well and I saw no signs of hermie issues, which were reported by the breeder, even in stressful conditions.



The Report: LP#1 (Santa Marta Colombian Gold x Airbourne's G-13) x SMCG

if I remember correctly

just entered the jars.



Visual: Army green looking buds of light-medium density, short peachy-orange hairs, stacked medium sized stacked calyxes. SMCG dominant structure, frost everywhere, undersides of leaves just as frosty as the top, bitch to manicure though. Makes greasy caked blacked resin on the trimmers.

Aroma: Lovely soft fruity bouquet when opening the jar, travels quickly. Not overpowering at all, but you know something smells special, perfumey, slightly skunky, like a Del Monte fruit cocktail.

Taste: Tart fruit and lemons wish a hashy, piney bite. The undertone is sorta hazy, but its not, doesn't bite quite like the haze. The soft lemon tart fruit taste overshadows the pine on the inhale, pine slightly dominates on the exhale and hints of root beer float or cream soda comes through as well. I only smoke blunts, Swisher Sweets cigarillos. Occasionally a bowl or maybe some papers when I burn with my aunt or older associates.

High: The high is heady, focused, real day brightener type weed. It gets behind the eyes. Smoking it and typing this, things get cloudy and you have to refocus constantly. Under natural light, things get crystal clear. Like it can be bright as hell outside, where normally you'd have to cover your eyes with your hands because the sunlight is intense. This stuff makes things look like in vivid detail with sunglasses on. The sunlight doesn't hurt, I don't have to squint, and everything looks as if its in high definition. You tune in on the birds chirping with you ears but your eyes take your attention any and everything else. It settles into a nice light body hum after about an hour and a half, stuck but not couchlock. Smoke another and it seems to cut through itself with the body hum coming on a little earlier.

Good report TBG. I have a cut of LP that I will never let go of. Mine is very Indica'ish in growth but balanced in high.

TBG-- very good grow! I am currently growing Zoo's LP#1 x William's Wonder and also Reef's LP#2. I will be making f2's of Reef's LP#2. I have isolated two males one that is very fast and branchy pheno and another that is very fast and is a pole pheno.

Nice report TGB! had not heard of the love potion in a while, some phenos are really great, some have great yield and high. Selection is the key here, many different phenos to choose from and most are very good.
I still have some of the original and some of the more indica cross. Good stuff! Makes copious amounts of hash. Boom Shiva, RR

last i heard, he had retired from the distribution side of the biz and is only concentrating on breeding. i assume reef will surface somewhere soon.

b8man, from what i read, the newer versions of LP were selected more heavily and worked more to distinguish between phenos. i think a more lemony SMCG father was used as well.

i hear that LG. the cut i ran indoors leaned to the sativa side but was quite manageable. it requires lots of root space but branches niceley and trains very well, great SCROG cut.

this sounds interesting mosca as i think the #2's have been worked some more, i'm thinking if you make beans, they should be f3 or f4's. i think i remember reading on reef's old site that f2's of LP is not advisable for some reason. i'm not certain, maybe redrooster can shed some more light.

Thanks rr, been a while since reef's boards went down. i seldom posted but lurked everyday, it was my home. good to see you still alive and kicking. i would have to agree about the hash, if you could of seen the trimmers after a couple buds, caked, dark resin, so lovely.

yeah smoke--- unique smoke is right. most folks i shared this with couldn't understand the high or if they were high or not. that is, until they tried to make sense not knowing whether they were high or not.

hash--- i didn't run into any purple phenos. the friend that did this cut outdoors let a few branches go until late November here and we had a cold front last a few days with temps dipping under 32*F for a few days. no purple but she was mighty frost resistant. calyx size wasn't any bigger but they were denser, very aromatic.

and for those interested, Reef just restocked the other place and added a few goodies too:

Supreme hp, g13xhaze, willie nelson, burmese pure,nepalese pure, african black, early bubba kush, early purple kush, grapefruit, purps, mazar, big sur holyweed, EII, head stash, and sour disel kush.

a bit pricey on the landraces and pure varieties, especially since he's not around to answer questions anymore.

I bought the original Love Potion(2 Packs),right after Reef won the cup.

I have the lemon pheno(sat leaning),rootbeer pheno(indica leaning),plus an almost
pure sativa pheno that takes forever too finish...and last but not least an almost pure
indica pheno,that has huge nuggets.

Took my best male at the time and dusted those bitches...made tons of seeds,and have been running clones of the originals ever since...one my favorites.

Here is the LP#1 cut I mentioned earlier. I should run it every cycle.

Love Potion #1 is (G13xSMCG) x SMCG
Love Potion 1.1 is the same cross isolating the G13 pheno
Love Potion #2 is (G13xSMCG) x SMCG isolating the Lemon Pledge pheno -- it's the lemon pheno of LP#1 that took the cup in '04 and was Reef's goal when he envisioned the cross...
Love Potion #1 circa 2008 is the same G13xSMCG mother crossed with 3 new very lemony and fast males and comes in 2 or 3 weeks earlier-- I haven't confirmed that maturity rate but that would be excellent...

I'm told there are more than 7 unreleased crosses made with that winner female...

I grew one dozen LP#2 and didn't find a winner in seven females and five males. In all honesty, I had cal/mag issues in that patch... I plan another run in summer '09... I made plenty of LP#2 f2s and also attempted LP#2xBlueberry... I also have a dozen more f1s.

Despite the problems, everyone seems to love the bud... The lemon scent fades to hay which morphs to a classic sweet sativa smell but full cure takes 4-6 months... The buzz mixes well with alcohol making it popular for parties and BBQs... Very sticky resinous buds on many budsites and a fat cola tops every branch...

The reason this cross is not recommended for f2ing is the rumor that the original G13xSMCG mother plant was from hermied stock... Hope my LP#2 f2s are stable cause I got a film canister full...

About the F2's I don't believe they would be any worse or more varied than the seeds you bought from RM. If I had any idea that the LP#1 would be so awesome I would have made a ton of F2's. I crossed it with other stuff but no incross.
I won't buy any of his new gear because his prices are crazy.

Ulysses, this sounds very similar to the cut i ended up with. Figured it would take a long cure to bring out the nuances of it, especially when grown indoors. Outdoors, this cut had a 3 1/2" stalk diameter and many many budsites.

I won't buy any of his new gear because his prices are crazy.

i know how you feel LG, how you completely remove customer service from the equation and still manage to raise prices is beyond me. with that said, i'm seriously contemplating grabbing some burmese pure and replacing my newberry. at least there on the lower end of his price list and i've heard nothing but good things about the burmese and have experience with his newberry. maybe the pink kush f4 too but thats really pushing it for me, if a problem should arise with these new wares, i'd hate to be out so much mulah with him not being around to answer for it.
