Painted Drywall: will it prevent any odors from going through?

sometimes when i walk into my bathroom which is right next to the grow room i feel i can smell a faint odor of the buds. is it possible for odor to leak through two layers of painted drywall? i know drywall is just gypsum bonded to paper, it's porous so is it possible odor could leak through? what if it's painted, dont u think paint seals the drywall, although typical interior paint isnt really waterproof (therefore not odor proof?)

course since the two doors are right next to each other, im probably just smelling the odor leak around the grow room door, which is fine for the most part cause no one ever comes into my place (im still gonna weather strip it to cut down even more, to the point where someone can be 5 feet away from the grow room door and barely smell anything over the natural funk odors of my place: cooking, trash, etc). fwiw, i have a carbon scrubber going in the grow room too, so that cuts down on odor a lot.

anyone have an experience where they're sure that bud odor went through a wall, whether it's drywall or even brick?

if you suspect that the odor is coming thru the dry-wall then I,d use oil-based paint and not water based...a bit more hassle but oil paint will actually act as a vapour barrier in old home that have little or no insulation in the walls....funny thing with odor is that it can get around all kinds of small openings ..light switches..wall plugs etc....so you may need to get out the cauling gun and seal all small openings..
ne how good luck......

You're probably smelling the leakage through the cracks in the doors, it's very unlikely you're smelling it through the drywall.
I'd suggest you look at a small vaportek unit or similar if you think you have an odour problem.

The smell can't come through the sheetrock. It's as dense as concrete. You could have some leakage along the baseboards and the ceiling moulding, if you have it, along with the doors....

Thanks for the help, guys. im definitely sure its leaking under the door. i have some weatherstripping im gonna install once i get my drill back. good to know drywall wont let any smell through. doesnt rez like to say the odor of his sour diesel will penetrate brick walls? maybe its just hype. sure it's probably super stinky, but no pot is so strong that its odor cannot be controlled with proper measures.
