Most underrated bands.

Most of my favorite bands doesnt get half the attention they should get. while 99% of the clones out there bump to the same lame timbaland remix.

a band like Clutch for example. awesome shit, gets about 200k hits on their best songs on youtube, while some bitch emo kid crying about others being bad to Britney spears gets 5million hits.

other bands gluecipher and turbonegro. fucking rocks man, noone knows them.

makes me wonder .. what else is out there that i dont know about.

'The Seahorses' were really under-rated, there was only ever 1 official Album released 'Do It Yourself', check it out man, every tune on there is epic,
the 2nd Album was ready for release but things started to go pear shape (not sure what happened tho),
the 2nd Album can be found online if you look hard enough tho:yes:

another band that still makes me scratch my head in disbelief why they weren't more popular is 'Ocean Colour Scene',
1 of the best bands about (both in the Studio + Live),
respect to Chris Evans who done them good tho by using their 'Riverboat Song' as the opening titles of TFI Friday:yes:, sort of made alot more folk stand up and take notice of them,
every song by them is class, even all the B-Sides are big enough to be used in final-cut song choices for Albums, Stevie Craddock's a demon on Guitar, Simon's 1 of the best Vocalists about and the Drummer Oscar bangs the skins wiv style:rasta: - amazing band

YouTube is more about entertainment and the emo transvestite happens to be a good entertainer. Yeah, it's a disgrace that shitty boy bands like the Jonas Bros are peddled through radio and TV as hot shit, but it doesn't matter, only the ignorant adore them.

As for Clutch, I don't know if I would consider them underrated. I like their sound and they produce solid albums, but underrated? I'll give you an example of how 'underrated' is all relative to the listeners preference. The way I see it, most kids are growing up listening to the bands/artists which family/radio/friends etc play. So if they grew up liking Weezer, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Cake, Jay-Z, Soundgarden, (what you see in mainstream) etc, and then you tell them you have a really fantastic album that you want them to check out. You tell em most critics have both of these albums in top-100 albums of the 90s, it's hot shit, etc...Give them Spiderland by Slint or Laughing Stock by Talk Talk it will probably sound like boring, snail-paced rock to them. A few might see the genius in it and maybe even view them as underrated...those familiar with the post-rock genre will simply tell you they are by no means underrated...in fact they are probably the two best post-rock albums of the 90s...but when you measure the fanbase,success,fame etc of Slint or Talk Talk to the fanbase,success,fame of bands that are peddled by radio/tv/etc. then the term underrated becomes a bit skewed...do you see what I'm getting at? It just amazes how many view Nick Drake or My Morning Jacket as underrated. so while I actually consider it a moot topic..I'll play along and give you my suggestion:

Brainiac

I can never quite describe their sound, so I'll simplify...bizzare, sci-fi alt. rock. I could try and describe their sound, but it wouldn't make any sense. You gotta experience the distorto-electro-spazzy-dance goodness of Brainiac for yourself. It's the type of music that really shouldn't work...but it does, and beautifully. They only released 3 albums...Pitchfork media included two of their albums in the top-100 albums of 90s list.Despite that, outside of OH, Brainiac is relatively unknown. Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails does cites them as an influence though...still, theyve flown under the radar for a long time and just before they had the chance to blow up, tragedy struck...front man of Brainiac, Tim Taylor (lead singer, moog synth, guitar), died in single car crash on the eve of signing with a major record label...If you are looking for something new to listen to Brainiac won't dissapoint, but it's a little challenging at first.. Start off with Bonsai Superstar. Hissing Prigs is probably their best album, but Bonsai Superstar is just a better introduction and it's short (35 mins)... Oh, incase you want to look up lyrics to the songs...well, it will have to remain mystery cause there are only 5 or 6 songs with full lyrics. You can find a couple live performances of YouTube...Vincent Come on Down is the only Brainiac song on YouTube that isn't live. But if want to check 'em out, PM me and Ill hook you up with the albums.

Also, there is an article somewhere on the internet where they describe how Jeff Buckley reacted to Tim Taylor's death...basically, Jeff Buckley flipped, got depressed, and then started to insult the audience. That was Buckley's last performance, too, he drowned a week after Tim Taylor's death. Kind of creepy.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre



Mostly due to lead singer Anton Newcombe's hatred towards the music industry, this band never got the commercial succes they deserved.
They're still going strong though, but the classic line up, that gave us some of the most vibrant and mindbending, music of the 90's and post 2000, is no more.

I've listened to them for a few years now, and I can recommend them aswell.

Album: No CV. Very underrated. They are one of the most musically diverse and talented bands I have ever listened to. If you like one song containing a multitude of different rhythms and styles then search for the song "the boy i used to be my computer" on youtube. It is 6 minutes 53 seconds long. They are anti war and pro marijuana. A lot of there songs have references to it and you just have to pay attention. People don't often get their sound because it is so different from anything they've experienced. The whole album is genius and you feel like you listened to a complex story or a someone's life. It progresses really well and leaves you feeling inspired.

Another band that I wouldn't really consider underrated but definitely not mainstream/well known.

Jets to Brazil

Best lyrics I have ever heard and tons of references that you will pick at and want to explore. Such as "ordering in all friends and lovers and we're making our weather with a lone light bulb". Three Cds. Orange Rhyming Dictionary, Four Cornered Night, and Perfecting Loneliness.

From The Frequency - "And all the medicine went to my head again late last night. My bed of saccharine, my bad amphetamine. I was lit from within, burning with means and ends. And the city life is like a sugar high, knocking me out.. Keeping me wired. It's incredible. Unsteady chemicals come and go, the ebb and flow."

a good example would be Kings X then.

black rock vocalist in the 80's n 90's.. voila underrated.

If were allowed to span the long history of music ....The most underated musician i think is .....Shuggie Otis ..Shuggie who? A musical genius who was passed over without a look,but so influenced the sound of music ...

i fully agree their music is of the type super brainwave spazout rock, the vocalist is fucking amazing. just so much sound and power and energy it totally kicks my ass.

I can't tell ya how much this music touches me. I love dark and melancholic sounds. Check out some of their work.
I wouldn't both called underrated, they just go their way and never had anything to do with mainstream.

Third: Bedouin Soundclash, know them for some time, but in my country their unknown

Blind Melon, what can i say? shannon hoon was a truly gifted spirit with angelic voice and one of the best lyrics i've ever read. the contrast between those upbeat songs and those dark, deep lyrics are something very unique in music history. don't judge this band if your only heard 'no rain' there's so much more!

American dont know where from but seen them in a small town in Germany about 10 years ago, got a great sound esp Spreading The Evening Sky With Crows
