Why Buy When U Can Grow?

hey everyone whats shakin? this is my first thread and im gonna start it off with my idea for my new apartment. recently ive moved into a 3 level town house in the student ghetto i ive got the top 2 floors of the house and i was thinking that weed is way to fucking expensive in the city so mes thinks that a small cab in my extra room would cure my weed problems. So i ve been looking around the site for a while and i ve come to the conclusion that a 600 watt SOG would be my best bet but im concerned about smell so if anyone has tips on scrubbers and shit like that it would be awesome hearing your input

Also on another note my buddy hooked my up with a sick line up of strains to start me up they are as follows: Blue Berry, Brain CAndy, White Widow, Blue Widow, Ak47 x NL, Ak 47 Super skunk(im considering givin these beans to my old man for christmas LoL cuz im scared they'll stink to bad), and finally Blue Berry x Haze special, All from Growers Choice so i think ill be good for genetics

As for size i was thinkin max 4 x 4 feet by the height of the room which is ruffly 8 feet any way thats my thoughts. Any and all comments are welcome lookin forward to what u kids have to SAy lol

Sounds like you're starting down the right path. I would highly recommend you do a bit more reading before you go throwing some wattage in a cabinet-like setup.

First off: you want to shoot for 50W per sq. ft.

A 600W in a 4x4 area only gives you 37.5W per sq. ft.

4x4 areas are more suited for an 800W but if you're going that big, you may as well go 1000W, right? :wink:

Second, you need to start thinking about ventilation and odor control earlier rather than later.

Third, since you've got good genetics to work with already, concentrate your time and energy on getting a good environment setup for them.

yeah i would say the same thing add more light mate and you wont regret it just put some good ventilation and you are ready to produce some heavy colas

great advise so far, but bigger is not always better. depends on your situation and security limitations.

are people ever going to be in your living area where the cab will be? a small cab with a 400 maybe 600 can be stealth, but a 4x4 box to the roof is quite large. just make sure security is number one, which you seem to grasp (already asking about carbon filters! nice job)

Speaking of carbon filters, you can buy them or make your own. Depends on how handy you are. The main ingredient is activated carbon, which can be picked up at a local pet store (fish isle)

Don't skimp on ventilation, a bigger fan on a dimmer/speed controller is a wise choice.

Where are you venting? You are in a townhouse, do you have an attic? A 1k light will build up some heat pretty quick...

I am not convinced DIY filters are as good as retail filters like CAN. Too much on the line for that.

Remember the first rule of grow club is there is no grow club. NOBODY knows. If you dont think you can handle that, then dont start. Legal problems, getting robbed, getting hurt are all possible consequences from loose lips.


Sounds like good strains. Pick ONE that you like the LEAST and grow that and get your noob mistakes on that one. YOu may be able to grow all of them at once but as a noob, I think you need to focus on one strain and learn from your mistakes.

hey guys this is some good info right off the bat but im thinkin that 600w is my best bet for security reasons i think that a 1000 watter would get to hot and in order to solve the wats per square foot deal i could make it 3x3 and if my maths rite then 600 w would make the 60 somethin per sqft which seems like it could be even more beneficial
as for venting there are a couple option depends on which room i decided to use for my permenent cab one room has a window that faces into the ally behind my house and the other option is to possibly go through the attic but i havent figured out how to get up there et you see there is only a small hole to access it and im not a small man lol im 6' 4" 230 so climbing iin cubby holes aint so easy lol

Hey man, sounds like you got some great genetics to start off with. Before I say anything else, have you considered setting up two cabs? Using one for Veg, Mothers, Clones and the other for Flowering? It would help in so many ways. I just got two cabinets that will make up my "home office" w/ mother chamber in smaller one and flower chamber in bigger one (7 sq ft). Just a thought.

Check out the DIY thread in my signature. There's a section for carbon scrubbers on there. Worth reading, even a monkey could put a carbon filter together. And this is a MUST. Most grows get busted because of smell. BTW, is the buddy you got your beans from cool? Be careful, no one should ever know.

Lastly, try and vent into the attic. I'm the same size as you and its a pain to crawl through my low attic, but it's a great place to vent, better than a window. Good luck.

thanks white the 2 cabs is a really good idea and ive been checkin out the attic and if i ban figure out a way to get in and out it looks like my best bet for venting.

Depending on how much you smoke and if your sharing the harvest with flatmates, a small cab can be more than enough. I used to get 3-4 ounces from a small 150 watt cabinet. We converted a normal looking dresser so it didn't stick out at all either.

Occasionally we would run out in between harvests but it was much less expensive to build and way easier to hide than a bigger grow that would of lasted us, ya dig? Weigh your options, max out your wattage/sq. ft ratio no matter the size and most importantly BE SAFE!
