Basement Grows

Hello,

Me and a buddy will be attempting our first grow. The location will be his basement, looking at about growing 5 plants per attempt. We will be purchasing 10 fem seeds - probably Trainwreck as these are available though BC Seeds. They seem reputable and have had good reviews.

Anyway...just looking for opinions on set-up. What would you experts use for a grow in a basement?...as far as lighting, soil, etc... Also, what should we figure to yield with 5 TW plants?

Personally, I am skepticle of "kits"...should I be? Will this do the trick?

Again, this is our first grow and are looking for suggestions from you guys. It doesn't need to be stealthy as the house is his and only his. We have tons of room, but we don't want to do anything big...just growing for our personal use, so we figure 5 plants should suffice, then grow the next 5 after the initial 5 are finished.

Suggestions/thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Not a bad kit, you could do worse...

if i may make a couple suggestions, in addition to your kit, get a vegetative setup going, same theme, inexpensive, but effective...

another suggestion, female seeds from one of the vendors at seedBay or seedboutique...

get your setup dailed in, first.

consider some odor control, too.

It's not the worst kit out there, it should get you going if you are a beginner, 5 plants doesn't sound like it should be enough for two people. How much do you smoke?

We smoke quite a bit. Should we start out doing the 10 plants? What type of yield are we looking at for 10?

How would you recommend controlling the smell?

control smell with a carbon scrubber. If you are using a basement you may want to consider a tent. This way way you can make sure all the smell goes through your scrubber before leaving the tent. as far as yeild it depends on a lot of things. most say .5 grams per watt in the beggining but it could be much lower or higher than that. there is only one way to find out.

i have also had a great experience from that site. along with that kit youll a few things. make sure you have proper ventilation and fresh air, its huge. btw that foxfarm soil is sweet. ill be watchin this one.

You can do this grow in 12 square feet of space. Basement grow implies tall numbers of plants, but since you're going 400w HPS and a single light, 5 plants would be fine and the large space will reduce the heat issues of an enclosed box.

What you may expect. Starting with 5 seeds, 1-2 don't germ leaving you 3 maybe 4 plants. 1 of those may not make it through veg so you're down to 2-3 plants if you don't overdose the nutes. At 2 feet tall I'll give you 2-4 ounces at 4 feet say 4-6. 10 seeds started 2-3 won't germ and one that does just doesn't max out it's potential giving you 5-6 females. At 2 feet tall 7-10 ounces and at 4 feet say 9-12 ounces.

I'm guessing here as there are so many variables, I just can't guarantee any estimates.

Thanks. Well the plan is to purchase feminized seeds. But I'm sure since this is our first grow, we will screw a plant or two or 3 up.

I'm still looking into the various seed stores to decide the safest way to buy seeds since I am in USA as well as looking into buying the best fem. seeds out there. I prefer indica's, so any advice on this as well would be appreciated.

So it's safe to guess on the low side, a female could produce...oz's? I know this also depends on the seed as well.

Once we get going, I'll be doing a follow-along on here for advice.

Get one of those 54" square by 84" tall grow tent(DR120?), 600W light, matching blower and scrubber, etc. You can grow a pound+ per grow cycle IMO. That would be strain dependent. I've never grown trainwreck so I don't know about that strain.

More money up front, but tents make for a neat, contained grow. Easier to keep your grow clean too. You can take it down quick if you need to move it or for security reasons.
