I suck at drying

If you are growing for personal its nice to be able to hang dry and then slow cure in jars but when you are cash cropping you want to get it to the market place fast for various reasons. What i do is trim it ,lay it on a screen put a fan on it until its pretty dry about 3-4 days. There is usually moisture on the inside still so i put it in garbage bags place it in a warm area and let it sweat for about 12 -24 hour. Then lay it out again until its nice n sticky (but not crumbling into dust bone dry) and bag er up.

Have you been spying on me????? Thats pretty much how I do it except I use paper and plastic bags depending on situation

my most recent crop (4.2oz wet) I hung from my reflector in the flower side of my cabinet with the light cycle still going (no other plants in there though) RH is about 47%, I hung them Saturday evening it's Monday morning and they've lost about 2/3 of their weight already. This is my 4th or so harvest but the first time I've had a scale to track the actual weight rather than eyeballing it. That's awfully fast isn't it? strain is Dutchbreed Strawberry Cough #2

Thats your problem you got your light still coming on inches from your bud bro. bad idea

I had read that chlorophyll will continue to break down for a couple of days after cutting if they're in the light. Is this some shit I fell for or is it a worthwhile practice? At any rate I guess that doesn't mean mere inches from the light eh? Oh well.

My belief, like others, it’s not a drying problem but a strain problem. Use the frog skins you make on this bag seed do a little investigation on strains and buy some good gear (seeds) and you will see the difference.

dayumn, so is Dutchbreed no good then? The end result has been fine by me, this is the 3rd harvest from the same mother plant. Still honing the techniques, obviously :D

Exactly the way I do it too! The garbage bag sweat treatment really evens out the moisture level so that it can dry out more consitantly. One thing I have found that works well if you over dry is to place the buds when still connected to the stocks into the bag for the sweat treatment. Even when the buds are over dry and the stocks seem dry too, there is still enough moisture in the stems to rehydrate the buds to perfect consistancy. Even if they are too dry and off the stocks already, I just rebag them and add the stocks to it. Comes in handy as I too often leave them to dry for too long before I return to check them.

Northcal420,
your buds look real good,I have seen aerated buds being extremly strong,I agree with Greyskull , 3.5 up to 5 days dry is a great way to go,I don't like cure too...anyway they cure naturally ....and yes the fan direct on the buds will alter terpenoids and flavor for sure....from wind burning...

from the color of the leaves still on it id say give it a longer/better flush, looks like the N is still high.

This is the money you could be saving if you grow

You can cut down on the airy look by lightly pressing the buds, or squeezing the buds a bit before they are dry. They my look a bit small, but will be more compact and still weigh the same.

question:

do you think drying with a cold light on like some clfs, that such light would aid the drying process in that it would help prevent the formation of fungus/molds in the area? or will the light accelerate fungus/mold growth (if any spores are present etc...)? :chin:

I think fungus or mold will form regardelss if the conditions are right. The light probably won't help. If there is good air circulation and humidity is kept low then you shouldn't have any problems with mold.

With a good strain it seems no matter how much abuse the buds take ,its still dank/smelly /saleable ect.I enjoy it best before the clorophyll dies.
