Grape Ape Day 54

Here are some updated pics. The last 2 days have been HELL on my plants. My timer malfunctioned, and although it indicated the correct time and indicated the power should be off, the lights were still on. This happened on an outdoor enclosure in the middle of the day with exhaust and fans off in southern california. Temps hit very high, as with humidity. But since it happened at day 48-49, I think all the ladies will be ok. The GA will be fine, but I worry a little more about the sativas.

grapes is a very good purple strain that can produce alot of very dense sweet purp
Looks great. GA was the first strain I did indoors a few years ago. It had TONS of vigor, was a BIG producer and finished close to 60 days. The smoke was just awesome. Over the last few years I've read about low vigor, poor yielding purple strains but GA is in a different class. That purple will march across the leaves led by a wave of trichomes popping up. It has some absolutely beautiful bright lavender/violet colors when finished properly. If this is the GA I grew then your're in for a treat!

Nice job man.

here's this years GA
mine purpled from the bottom first; I can never finish it like my friend...his turns almost entirely black. Mine sure has that grape jam musty though.

Hope you enjoyed her smoke.

I tasted some Ape recently - I thought it was a very unique smoke. Didn't give off a huge odor, and very mellow smoke. Good luck Hoss!

is grape ape a chronic pheno. that's what i was told and because i had a chronic pheno smell and taste just like grape jelly. so the ones who smoked it also said hay this is grape ape. but i never told them it was chronic from serious seeds .

Grand Daddy Ape (she is GDP's daddy, a fairly old cut from what i have gathered)as she was originally known predates chronic and (heres the contraversial part) has never been stabilized in a IBL. This strain can and does herm producing S1's that I believe alot of folks are thinking is IBL seeds. I have run both and notice that S1's are more difficult to finish and about a 30% herm rate.

The best I can tell is that this cut is most active in and around the Bay Area.

Please correct me if you have any additional or better info.

oh yeah, the cut will finish almost indigo black long after trich development from what I ahve seen this happens @ 70 days when most trichs have clouded.

I will try and find a budshot of the darkest bud I have ever been witness to. The effect is even amplified more if she is finished under the big star.

GDPs father is SCBB, not grand daddy ape.

Stop spreading mis-information, not cool.

In fact, can you even tell me the lineage of grape ape? What about erkle? gdp?

yea.

OP, nice. I always have GA. One of the better purples out there, stands its own next to the real purple kush, and mendo kush, even though its a paki. Just a thought, GA likes the potasium, so load up on that and phosphorous mid flower. Give her a 2 week minimum flush, and she will really reward you well. Not too much nitro, you will notice the leaves darkening real quick. Also, I wouldn't use gravity and PM UNLESS you have every nute dialed in. If you don't, then it will only make the problem worse.

Have fun!

Whatever

Grape Ape was the first strain I ran indoors about 5 years ago. I've seen a lot of GA pics but not many I would consider the same cut I had and maybe more like a dif purple cut. The cut I had was extremely vigorous, an excellent yielder, and finished 60 days on the nose. Was very fragrant/tasty and pretty damn potent. I'd love to stumble across that cut again someday.

Wow, thats the first time in over 5 years I've been called out like that!!

You are right I mispoke re: GDP, i believe what I came across last year when I was first trying to work with it was that Erkle was implicated as a direct descendent of Grand Daddy Ape or Grape Ape as has become best known.
I haven't really been comfortable with the range of info on this strain.

I'm certainly not trying to sabotage the quality of archived info here and have always been comfortable presenting ideas for discussion valid or not. I believe there is a reasonable amount of confusion that exists re: GA strain.

here's a little nug of yet another idea:

the original names are not so flashy, but who cares. seems wierd but sometimes herb is what its sold as, not what it actually(genetically) is..
but the latest hype, is that the grape ape was just recently made by a mendo local who has just recently moved there in the last four yrs. but trust me that stuff has been around for a bit.supposedly since the 70's. originally its from a hill just 5 miles outside of the town of mendocino.
hope this helps

please, if you have better info please set us straight.
