light type change

hey growers and tokers,

Another question for the kind minds!!

The quest!

currently in the veg. period 24 hours of light from an 200w Envirolite, the grow cab also has a 400w HPS and a 600w HPS. The envirolite is the only lamp on for the 24 hour period at the moment.

Would turning the 400w on aswell as the envirolite for a period during the 24 but not the whole 24hour harm or hinder the growth?

examples:

Maybe have it on for 4 hours then switch back to the 200w for 20 hours?

Or

add the 400w on for an hour or so periodicaly over the 24 hours?

Or

Half and half? equal periods of light switching between lamps?

??

Ideas and answers very much welcome!

thanks folks!

7 of cfl, then 6.5 of both, then 6.5 of 400w, then 4 off. Even put the bulbs a bit further appart so that the SUN is moving in the sky.

Thanks "one Q"

I think a gradual change would not "mess" up the little un's.

I thought switching between varying wattage of bulb 600w then 200w then 600w etc could be a mistake or hold benefits, just as turning the lights on during the night for a period alters the growth of the plant.

cheers

i wouldn't run 24 hour light if it was me

About the lights, it will be slamming the plants with more lumens, Won't hurt really and I always put my plants in the sunlight when it shines through my window. Prolly get a little more growth.

I know for me i can't afford to run big lights longer than 12 hours a day, so I use CFLs for veg only, never been an issue.

Nice1 "mexilandrace",

yeah its the same thinking as taking the plants from under the veg lamp and introducing them to sunlight then returning them.

why not 24 hours? (clone under 24hour light) or (veg out at 24hour)

The question has come from a friend on his 1st grow, I'm thinking the change over from cfl to HPS will spur on the flowering change over more than introducing the greater lamp during the veg. Although greater growth would be achieved if £power£ was no option i'd say turn everything on after the clones have settled in and big enough to cope with the intensity.

I think you should run the lights 24/7 for veg.But just the 200 one ,above that its overkill.

I just realized i was using 240 watts total of tube flouro's for veg /clones/mothers.I then switched to a 250w mh for all the vegging plants.Boy what a difference .Bye bye flouro tubes .If your pulling roughly the same voltage ,why not use a 200 hps or mh for veg instead of a compact flouro's or reg tube flouros

I have never noticed a positive difference between 24 hour light and any other combo.

I actually think that 4-6 hours of darkness increases my growth, its just how I feel.

I only use 24 hours of light for cloning, and even then I don't do it all the time.

I figure why not save some cash.
