how many strains does one need to have in a collection to be considered a strainwhore

Seriously people, I was going through my seed collection the other day and I had the sudden realisation that I wasnt really doing anything but sorting through a bunch of packs, vials etc. with no real purpose, much like a child would with a collection of football cards.Then it dawned on me that I do this on a fairly regular basis, making notes of how many of this or that I have when I know that no changes have occured since my last check.Are there others like me out there? going through their collections, admiring the tiger striping, dreaming up future crosses of this or that... engaging in behaviour that is, in all honesty quite perculiar or am I all alone?
I mean... fuck! I dont think I could grow all I have even if given 2 lifetimes...

I see someone has been phucking around with DrChronic for quite some time now!
(I hate not getting my seeds in the packs...no I don't trust him at all...especially when the breeder sells in 11's or 12's or 15's, and doc sends you 10 and NEVER in the packs)

But I'm running 14 varieties under 1200 watts right now so I'm probably in the club.

Definitely I exibit 'strange' behavior when it comes to cannabis varieties!

Well, strain whores, I suppose you know what Sigmund Freud had to say about collecting. It basically boils down to a way to handle primary loss trauma.

In other words, you weren't allowed to play with your poop as toddlers, and now you're compensating.

Every time I run a grow, I make on average three or four new crosses, so my seed bank is unfortunately building up.

If I haven't got the time or space to grow them all (and I don't), I prefer to give or send them to other growers that can. It's a good way to 'test' your work, and if the cross is particularly good, or a one of a kind plant comes out of it, I can always ask for a cut.

You can also send your surplus seeds to the Seedboutique, Gypsy will include them as freebies to other growers, who will grow them or share them. Same principle, just a different routing.

But it's nice to know that some growers sit on genetics that eventually become rare. That way, some old school strains can be resurrected, in remembrance of things past.

I think one becomes a "Strain Whore" when one grows things simply to see how they are. At a time when there are already good producing gourmet strains going in ones' garden...

Wait, let us consider.... Or is that someone who simply wants/demands/enjoys variety....? A Person/hobbyist/scientist developing their ever-evolving growing skills...? A Connoisseur of various strains.....?

Hey fellow Strain Whores, I too enjoy seeking out and trying new strains. Too boring to just have 5 mother plants! Even if they are all great....I also spend considerable happy time reading descriptions and dreaming about buying ALL the seeds I want to try. And it's not gonna stop anytime soon.
