Adding Molasses to Chem Ferts

Like the title says, I am looking for opinions about adding Molasses to a Chemical Based Fertilizer program. Specifically in the later half of flowering.

Many places you can find info about how great adding molasses is, although it seems a lot of the benefits go hand in hand with organics, specifically the beneficial bacterias.

When I add molasses to my rez, it causes PH drift. So I am trying to figure out if its worth the effort of adding it, adjusting PH over and over, compared to the benefit it adds to a chemical based fertilizer program.

Any info, input is welcome.. tks ^^
MR ^^

p.s. this is a repost from the CoCo section, sry if anyone has already read it.

Are you adding BLACKSTRAP molassas?? Then the ph shift is normal, cuz it has trace minerals in it.
i have added MOLASSES to my LUCAS formula with gh flora for a while, with good results. I add 5 ml per gallon up till the last 2 weeks of flower. I find that if i add it all the way i get a much muddyer burn of the final product. pax

when i switched from organic to chem ferts, i switched from molasses to dextrose as well.

Dextrose seems to frost the plants up just amazingly. Like you, I was wondering why I was adding molasses to my chem mix, since the only bacteria I get in my res is gnarly... So I switched to dextrose, and started adding h2o2. No more bacteria for me.

Tks for the input ^^

stevewinthrop: What is your source for the dextrose and where do you get it from, this sounds really interesting. When you added the H2o2 did you notice an improvement in growth or plant health?

Thanks,
MR^^

Hey steve! How much h2o2 do you add? how often?

pure dextrose is available at all brew stores... and every town has one, lol.

i add h2o2 to stop bacteria from forming. the only other benefits of h2o2 are increased oxygen and white roots. i use about half a litre per 40 gallon res of 3 percent peroxide.

you can get 30 percent peroxide as well, just use less

ps dont use peroxide with beneficial bacteria

Steve, I have never used molassas, dextrose or hydrogen peroxide although have read many threads. I guess I am leary of trying something I am not sure of. I grow in a soil mix, not hydro. Could you expand on what you feel the benefits and pitfalls of using a dextrose mix are? Also, any info on the pitfall and benefits of molassas appreciated. Did not realize it caused pH problems, never used it before and do not want to start unit I am confident in my knowledge and use of the product. Also, I have a pretty small grow, so my watering requirements are a couple gallons per application, so mixture rates of peroxide, dextrose and water per gallon would be appreciated. Thanks for your time and expertise.

Hey guys I only have generic chemical salts/liquid hydro nutes available so I was thinking of using those along with H2O2 and molasses. I don't have access to any organic or name brand nutes, and the benefits of commonly available H202+molasses really appeals to me. BTW this is for DWC. Is this triple combo ok? Just use all 3 from late veg right up to flush? The hydro nutes like I said are generic and aren't really split into grow/bloom so I figured adding these 3 together each time I change the water would be a pretty solid nutrient regiment for my girls. Is there anything else that is quite commonly available that I could add in terms of nutes/additives? I believe I could get some humic acid or dextrose if needed.

Also, I am using RO water, will I still need to supplement Cal/Mag if using molasses? I heard there is Cal/Mag in molasses and it will not need to be supplemented separately if you are using molasses. Or in my case, should I actually be substituting the molasses for pure dextrose? If I go the dextrose route, will I need to supplement Cal/Mag by means of calcium nitrate/epsom?

Thanks a bunch!
