P.S. Remember, we're doing something that's never been done, so I have no idea how it will all go! Don't give up if it seems to go slow (like with any streaming, give the downloading a head start before you hit play), and don't forget there are two places where you can actually download it to your hard drive and three ways to stream it. You can get to all of them at the link above.

P.P.S. If you're not yet registered to vote, here's a good link: https://www.voteforchange.com/.
So... since Michael gave me permission to share it in "any way I see fit"... I posted his reply here...

j/k bro,
Good find, I saw Moore on Bill Maher last night
and he announced its free release online there too.

I'm not dicsussing an interesting "video"...
This is a full length movie by a major hollywood director, and in an unprecedented move, a movie which could have grossed well at the box office and in after market dvd sales is being released 100% for free (unless you want to pay for it)...

That is news...
That is worthy of discussion, even if the movie is not...

No, it is not just some "interesting youtube video", and definitely worthy of it's own thread to discuss the facts about the free release, even if the actual download link which was sent to me is not...

So... What do you guys think about giving away something you could have sold?
Socialism?

I just watched this movie a few days ago for the first time and I have to say its powerful.
Michael Moore knows what's up and he provides a new perspective on how we could be living if we wanted to.

We have been hearing the word Socialism used quite heavily during this 08' race maybe if people learn what socialism is they might think hey that doesn't sound too bad a society were everyone is taken care of.

The issues mike talks about people should be getting for free over the news, but the media doesn't do their job so they have to pay 8 bucks to go hear about in a movie theater. By giving it away more people will watch it hopefully accelerating the movement. I think ending the chaos in the world is more important to michael than money. Giving the film away also sends a message

Michael Moore:

"I'd rather be known as the country that provides drinking water to world, the amount of money we spend in Iraq monthly is enough to drill wells in all the countries that don't have access to clean drinking water"

hello Grat, thanks for the link. I will watch this movie later today; the other day I watched Sicko on the t.v, it was pretty good too.
Paz

well, i guess i can't watch the movie for free afterall:

"SORRY!
Unfortunately, the lawyers tell us we are only allowed to offer the film to people residing in the United States or Canada. The computers think you are someplace else right now, and that's why you are seeing this page. If you really are in the U.S. or Canada and our computers are confused, you may try accessing the website from a different network, at a friends house, etc. We're very sorry for the inconvenience, and really want as many people to see the film as possible. The only people that are being "censored" are those that reside outside of North America. So, how is the American government censoring you?

Try getting it off a bittorrent site if you can't get it directly or are being blocked outside North America...
I'd try piratebay first....someone's got to have posted it. That's how I get all the BBC stuff so I don't have to wait over a year to see it here...LOL.

Cheers.

so this is your logic...

"I live in Europe and am not able to watch the movie, I blame the United States government for not allowing me to watch it."

please tell me you have a little more sense than this.

well, i must be honest, i have little sense, so who knows? i am not in europe either...

what i don't get is why are moore's lawyers telling him that the "adviceable" thing to do is to only release for free to the u.s and canada?

when one reads between the lines, this means that if he were to release it for free for real, that is, to the whole world, then he would get in trouble with the american goverment (hence the advice of his lawyers). so in conclusion, whatever legal issues are keeping the guy from showing the film for free to the rest of the world are indeed censoring. and such legal issues arise from north american govermental legislations, so there you go.

Come on guy's, relax & put away the tin foil hats. It's not a US Government conspiracy aginst those of you that don't live in the USA & Canada.

Moore only owns the rights to the flim in the USA & Canada. Therefore, the "right holders" of the flim for the other countries want to sell the movie to as many people as possible, and get back as much of their investment as they can. Which their entitled to do.

Moore can't give away what he doesn't own.

Hello Paz, blame Moore for only retaining the US & Canada rights to the film.

I'm sure that fat ugly bastard has to eat too.

Take care my friend.

although I surely appreciate Moore's constant challenges to authority Slacker Uprising is definitely Michael Moore-ish. I'm no film editor but I can tell that this one's got some ways to go yet before it's ready for market, even the free market. Which of course brings me to the 'why' in Moore's releasing it for free as opposed to theater & DVD sales. Being as it's not quite ready for prime time playing Moore would never have been able to finish, cut, edit, preview to execs, and market to theaters before the elections.......

imo it was just a ploy to get it out there before Nov. 4th & hey! wtf! I dig it.

Moore to me is this millenniums Ralph Nader, he's a great voice for the people and if he becomes a little less grating in his attitude he'll have a chance to make a big difference someday.

put a bit of thought into it and more of his reasons become perhaps even more transparent. Maybe he did this to garner the favor and interest of that young internet crowd that dig the free download idea so much. Getting any 18+ yr olds to download the 'SlackerRising' might encourage or enrage them enough to get out and vote. I surely don't claim to know all about Moore but he's shrewd/clever/devious in the most delicious way if ya dig folks rockin' the boat (& I do!) against the system.......

I can't really figure his angle on NOT allowing us to share it with anyone outside the US or Canada but perhaps he's using that as a curiosity ploy in which it gets people chatting about the movie (or it's limitations) without them actually chatting about the movies content. It's that 'word of mouth' free advertising that gets things rolling sometimes, makes it even more 'newsworthy' imo.

Take half of what I think/said and add it to the other opinions and facts above from others that know Michael Moore better than I do & he either looks like a VERY clever man or very lucky, I think he knows damn well launching Slacker online was brilliant.

Michael Moore will never be one of our presidents (nor would he want to be imo) but he's very likely to be one of the guys to bring one of them down some day.......
