So I have been doing some research on flowering under CFLs and cant seem to find what Im looking for. It seems everywhere says its not bad to do, then is just showing pictures of the buds. How many Cfls will I need? anyone have a link to a thread about this? It would be appreciated greatly. :joint:

Looking into the same myself, except using for veg

I don't really have alot of information on this subject myself, but am wanting more, so I hope you get alot of responses. In my situation I was thinking of the best for vegging. I did find some cfl lights on ebay that were specific for plants. They had cfl's in 5000k and I believe 2700k for flowering. My thought is they would work well if you had the right setup with enough of them. I know a cfl equivelant to a 75 watt lightbulb puts off around 1000 lumens, and I believe a general rule is 2000 to 3000 lumens per square foot. So if you had a 3 foot by 3 foot area = 9 square feet you would need 27 75 watt cfl's to have 3000 lumens per square foot. I believe they have cfl's up to 150 watt (largest I've seen) but I am unsure of the lumens they put off. Good luck in your search and I will be watching myself for my own information.

It usually depends on how big your grow space is and what wattage your CFL's are. Im growing a few clones in a small computer case with two 23w CFL's. I dont have any results yet, becuase ill be starting today.

Check out the micro grow forum. Alot of people in there use CFL's

peace!

You gotta keep them close, and by close I mean CLOSE as in nearly touching if not touching the bulb to get maximum results.

Dr. greenjeans or something grows with them, ridiculous wattage. Its not a hard to find thread, look around a little more.

for what is is worth I veg with cfls only, 100 watts of total light in a 2x2x2 area, zero problems.

I can't there are Sativa's (canna biogen Destroyer and BOG LSD) in there I just raised it I noticed some heat stress.

I should mension this is a test grow for T5 lighting. I have my main grow. Under 1000w HPS. Here is a pic there are 7 BOG LSD and 2 Destroyer. I want to compare them with the T5

With the CFL they do get warm, so putting them too close when the plant is too small you will kill them from heat stress. Only use one until the plant is bigger than the bulb. I killed good genetics a long time ago by frying some seedlings... Now I am flowering 4 clones under 1 23 watt and they are fine. I won't ad anymore unless I absolutely have too and they are responding well. So.... it's up to your genetics, creativity, whatever else anyone else said to make it work...

try a small fan blowing across the bulb and plants tops you shouldnt burn any again ive never burnt a plant with my CFL setup unless the 45w bulb touched the plant i can have them as close as 2 inch away n/p

I'm a first timer and still at the seedlig stage.
I use cfl 250W 5000K for veg and have a 250W 2700K for flowering.

I was adviced to buy those lamps by the boss of the grow shop, when I was planning to buy HPS. The CFLs, he said, was sufficient for 4-6 plants.
