Water Chiller homemade WORKS GOOD

Alrite so this is big BIG news... I have been growing pot for like 5 years... first i tried dwc and my plants got huge, then i started getting algae problems and water temp problems and shit just wasnt cool... my plants were becoming poorer quality over time instead of better... Well i attribute that to living in the SoCal low desert beach city that is HOT.. its always 75+ outside and my water temps are a steady 75-80f. to humans this is paradise but to bud plants in DWC this means ROT / stagnant growth...

I wasn't about to drop $350usd on some little water chiller SO.... I saved me alot of moneys by turning an old mini fridge into a functioning water chiller. It was SOO EASY... I took a 2.5 gallon water dispenser and cut the top off a few inches, filed it up 3/4 way, dropped a water pump in it and shut the fridge door on the pump cord.. Now drill a hole on each side of the fridge so you can pump water out of the fridge (into your dwc tub) and have water spilling back into the container thats inside the fridge. Basicaly I'm passing my water thru a mini fridge..

Slap a timer on the fridge to control the water temps... ENJOYYY
 :rasta: :jump:

Not to be a kill joy, but its been discussed before. You're going to fry your mini-fridge quickly...

i'm not sure of the wattage... but it is one of the smallest whirlpools I have ever seen so it can't be toomuch.. So far i've noticed a near 10 degree drop in water temps in my 5 gallon bucket dwc.. from 78 to 72 over the past 2-3 hours which makes me happy becuse 72 is alot better than 78 +.

I feel you mr celsius, I dont rlly like it either which is why i'm only using it to get me thru thes ehard times until I can afford a proper chiller... but I still have tests to perform.. my particular whirlpool mini fridge has a broad range minimum setting so I'm looking at how far I can turn it down and still get cool water.. It all depends on how big of a res you plan on chilling.. I only plan on using MAX 8-9 gallons

not to bring the vibe down...but. A water dipsenser works better and last longer. If that thing goes out you should give it a try. Just take it apart down to the coils, and drop them in your rez. Plug it in and there ya go. You have a water chiller that was deigned to actually chill water. 100bucks...lol i post this all the time and no one seems to take notice. But then there are tons of questions on a DIY chiller. LOL Good luck with yours man. {Peace

Yeah that would work way better. Some people like to use what they already got though. I would just buy a real water chiller though to be honest. It would be better cause you can actually set your temp to what you want it at and it will always stay at the temp. The only downside to a chiller is the heat.

What about something like this? I just quickly google it. I thought I could get away without a chiller for my waterfarm if I veg in the fall/winter still possible if temps here get cooler. Also the added wattage from a chiller will add another 480 watts or so.
but this only uses 70 watts! If it indeed works?
