Recirculating Organic Hydro

Sounds good, doesn't it?
Has anyone tried and ebb n flow type system with liquid organic nutrients?
If so, please share you information! I want to make the leap, but i'm caught up on nutrients...

Hi vigilo,

What are you caught up on about the nutes?

you are just looking for some tips perhaps?

-Organic nutes tend to run higher ppm's, and ph can do backflips.
-Finding a good feeding schedule is key!
-Look at plant for what its feeding schedule should be, don't rely on the label.
-Beneficial microbes work well to keep healthy roots.
-Rez's, pumps, and tubing will get gunked with more sludge than normal.

fyi
-Most of the so called organic hydro nutes aren't organic

thanks for the reply!!!
i am looking for some "clean" nutes like PBP, but something that is organic (OMRI).
as pure blend is a last resort. i'm afraid of the pH being outta wack, anything buffered would be nice. I had some EarthJuice and that stuff is too thick. will i be able to find organic nutes without sludge and clumps?
also, will i be absolutely required to bubble the solution 24-48hours beforehand. i guess that depends on the nutes i pick. any recommendations?

Hi vigilo, I'm sure you're the member who impressed me with their aquaponic skills.

Earthjuice is a PITA. But... it's so good! You can get wee ball bearings (steel marbles) and put a couple in each bottle to assist mixing it, like they do in paint cans. If not mixed properly, it is inconsistent. mixed right, it's bloody marvellous.

Earth Juice also needs the bubbling. But there is good bubbling, and then there is shit bubbling (and several layers inbetween).

Use this for other organic liquids too.

Get tap water and bubble it first for a few hours to remove chlorine. If you have chloramine add crushed up vitamin c. (google for amount to remove chloramine I don't have it).
Water should be in a warm spot.
Add EJ nutes including catalyst, if you do not have catalyst you need unsulfured blackstrap molasses.

Bubble for 12-24 hours. 12 is good, 24 is better. Longer is worse, too much bacteria arriving.

Treats to add with this.

Liquid Kelp.
Humic Acid.
Worm Rum.

NOT compost. This is not a compost tea method. It is a nute soup. Adding compost will force an explosion of bacterial growth with so many food sources in it which will draw out the oxygen causing aerobic conditions and degassing of valuable nutrients.

If you go with the EJ or not that should help. Organic hydro needs a micro-herd like in organic soil. the bio-film grows too thick, or gets 'clunky' for several reasons.

Too much sugar, too much light, too much phosphate, plants not taking nutes up as fast as they are added.

Once the medium becomes fully inhabited, after a few grows, it actually takes less nutes to grow better.

EJ and aqua is a winning combo, absolutely bewdiful weed. Go very light on the EJ, like 1/4 strength for this.

thanks for the reply..truly sounds like a dream waiting to happen. I'm going to have to buy a separate mixing drum.

p.s. i think BongSong was/is that aquaponics professor :)

It still sounds like a huge jump from chems to EJ...I think I'll have to wait until I make my setup absolutely perfect =)

Bong song? That wierdo rofl!

I'll help all I can vigilo. Your AP experience will make the transition a lot easier. You have the skills, now I guess it's just mulling over in your brain. I expect one day I'll come visit and you'll be here in fits of enthusiasm with a plan.

Love those brain bursts!

When I'm starting my next build you will be invited to watch.
