just saying gotdamn i hate mofuckin growin shit out to find out they either are pieces of shit or male...

i mean its to be expected, for sure.

just reallly grinds my gears when a few are just under even sub par, suck beyond beliefe and then you got the goood lookin ones that eventually turn to males.

had 30 seeds 3 strains, one strain didnt even pop they were garbage!!!
did i recieve help or even answers on that one strain?? welll actually yes i did!!!

the rest i dont really care that i have mostly males because in the past i've had extremly good luck with my female ratio.

shit just makes me sick that a company can tell me i'm the fuck up when ive been in the business for years and just spent over 100 bucks (out of 370) on one bunk strain.

either way i'd say i made good with one out of 3 strains the Mr Bubble is Great, Euphoria is ok but the Pheno's are complete crap!!!

so all and all i'm dealing with 4 good female phenos out of 30 seeds for 375 USD..

I don't have good luck with seeds either. I usually get crummy male to female ratios or the plants that I do get never seem to be better than the clones I have now. I am on the look out for a couple new strains to grow, but the seed thing doesn't work to well for me. By the way, what seed bank did you buy your seeds from?

got'm from the boutique and while im not blaming gypsy it just pisses me off that one strain didnt even pop... i ended up planting them all anyways, hahaah got ONE out of 10 to sprout 2 weeks into my grow... lol so i nursed this little weakling and it even turned out male!!! lmao!! welll what ya gonna do!!???

fuck i was pretty disappointed with this dutch passion strain i got too!
i predominately useto grow DP strains before i ever came around here. so i was pretty surprised to see such bad quality in this strain..


i'll talk alotta shit cuz its necessary, but thank fucking god for clones.. just kinda fucks me over on my bumper harvest..

Looks like you had better luck then a lot of people. It is good to rant and let it off your chest though. I have bought two packs from seedbay that not one germed on me. Those are the brakes. Get the mom stable full and you will never have to buy a seed again in your life.

I brought this up once before (and got roundly ridiculed for it) but just prior to germing, I place my seeds in a brown paper bag with a few near-ripe bananas and/or cucumbers, close the bag and stick it somewhere cool and dry for a week - or until the fruit is past ripe and approaching over-ripe.

Result: 70-90% female plants every damn time. My most recent run I started 8 seeds (3 diff strains). 7 popped, 5 of which were girls, no subsequent herming. Pretty much as I'd expected since this was my fourth such seed-prep in the last five grows and the result is always the same: a very high volume of femmes. Yes, I've had 100% females result as well (though with smaller seed-samplings).

Reason I know this method works is -that one grow in the last five I didn't use the "bag o' bananas" method? I wound up with five males out of eight starts.

I believe the "secret" to this method is the ethylene gas released from the bananas and cukes as they ripen promotes female sex traits in seeds.

OK, go ahead and start laffing at me now. But it works, so help me!

I am pretty sure the seeds already know their sex before you plant them. You just got lucky with the females is all. I personally dont believe you can make a seed guaranteed fem unless it is a feminised seed. You cant make a female embryo turn into a male embryo in the womb. Dont work like that.

I sympathize with you dude! Not only do you NOT get to see the parent plants they came from, you get a buttered up "strain description," and you have to pay hundreds for 10 seeds.

Finding seeds is rough when it's such a hush hush business, and after all, it is a BUSINESS, so you can go on to assume as with most businesses, there's going to be some shadiness in the seed business. Show me the selection, show me the best parents, show me the one you picked, tell me if it's legit F1, tell me if they're in fact just polyhybrids (most strains today) and nowhere near stable. But you don't get that. You get descriptions written like they're all the holy grail, and then you get stuck with the chore of finding the phenos they should be using to stabilize that strain before they ever released it.

"Breeders" are out there paying bills like anyone else! Remember that, and spend your money wisely!!!!

Is there any way of telling a seed is male or female? In any kind of plant not just cannabis? Please elaborate if so. If you could that would mean there is no need for feminised seeds. Since there are feminised seeds that proves there isnt anything that can show the sex of a seed so therefore how can you prove that a seedlings' sex is not already genetically in the seed?

Thats going to happen occasionally. I have a friend who paid big money for seeds that only popped one seed out of ten and it fell over. I personally have typically 50/50 ratio. Try cloning.

It's kinda funny now that I think of the ratio of females I've had...90% of my seeds have turned out female throughout my entire growing career lol. I've only had 3 males ever in my garden. The rest of seeds I've popped were females. I always get at least one female out of the 3-5 seeds I decide to germinate. I feel your pain on ending up getting a sucky pheno. I really understand why those people who discovered OG Kush and Bubba Kush and stuff are the way they are about their discovery of the unique traits in their cuts. The only pheno I've had that I can truly say I'm proud to own is the one I got with these DSD beans. I'm gonna start a lot of seeds in 09 though and pick 3 of the best phenos and keep for mothers. I already have one keeper of the DSD, gonna try to find 2 other unique phenos in these other beans I have

Tarantula_1, I am not saying your idea doesn't work as I have heard weirder things being true, however I have to ask, how did you come up with this idea? An accident or you heard it somewhere before? Just curious and thanks for your input.

Chubbynugs does have a very good question. I have read scientific papers on hemp seeds being able to change sex before sprouting when conditions are not favourable, such as bad soil or differences in temperature. But it is true, I wonder how they know the seed has changed from male to female and vis-versa? They must do DNA testing?
