Need weed but not the high?

Hi,
I have a lot of different med condition and weed helps the best for the pain BUT I don´t always enjoy getting high. I´m smoking my own stuff, Lowryder 2 females, and the taste isn´t always that great either. I´ve tried making teas etc but they don´t quite hit the pain.

Anybody else feel like this? A lot of the times I enjoy the buzz but not every day...

My hubby gets good pain relief from edibles. I throw in lots of dry leaves (yes, even fan leaves) and a few buds into the blender, powder it and mix it in muffins. I just get a mild buzz from a muffin, but he gets better pain relief than with the doctor's pills!

THC is not the only pain reliever in cannabis, CBD will also kill pain and will not get you high, (it's found in some strains of industrial hemp- I believe Finola has it- run a search on CBD). Some of the seed vendors are beginning to list CBD levels (about time!) since it helps many conditions. You might see if you can find a lower THC, high CBD cannabis! Worth a try.

There's a butter method that I really like (because I don't like the texture of the ground up buds & leaves) - water extraction.

Specifically, the water extraction method written about in Marijuana Cooking good medicine made easy by Bliss Cameron & Veronica Greene. Its method 3 in the book. No grit.

The book also has all kinds of good info on dosages... HIGHLY reccomended.

BTW - the edible high, when propely dosed (IMO 1oz bud per lb butter) is a long lasting body stone. You do not feel giddy and happy. Pink Floyd generally isn't going to blow you away... the oscillating fan might, but not the Floyd. Edible "highs" are total body relaxing stones. Everything is okay. You're just chilled out and relaxed.

Cannabis topicals work, too.

Yeah thats my way also Greyskull , around 1 maybe 1 and a quarter oz's per pound of butter , I don't much care for the texture of the herb in edibles when put in on its own . Zoo

This is an interesting topic. Many of my friends need less THC and more CBD in their med. I believe 'POPS' has a lot of good information on this subject.
I am still learning about it.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Greyskull again.

Hi,
Have you guys heard of a band named "Volbeat" -excellent, their "Sad Man Tongue" is a very good song...

I just got off the bong... :rasta:

And today the high feels good, hit the spot for the pain and the high is mellow. Finding an exact dosage seems to be difficult...but every day is different when you take in factors as hormones, food, levels of caffeine before smoking etc.

Somebody could do some research on this ;)

I tried making butter and the taste grosses me out...haven´t tried baking with it, just melting in tea.

I still have some leaves that I could try for baking, not a bad idea. I´m just afraid of becoming really high on that.

With afraid I don´t mean that I´m afraid of the high itself it´s that I´d like to preserve a certain level of function...guess I´m on a rant...

Peace

I'm in the same situation and 90 percent of my use is edibles.

Use the water method. Take a couple quarts of water and mix your weed in, bring to a simmer. Melt a pound of good, real, butter in it. The butter will float on top. Stir and let simmer for an hour or so.

The boiling water limits the temp to 212 degrees so the active compounds won't be harmed. The good stuff is oil soluble so it will end up in the butter, the nasty tasting compounds are water soluble and you'll end up with some nasty green water.

Stick the whole thing in the fridge for a while, the butter on top will harden into a solid layer that you can pop out of the pan. I just cut it into quarters, wrap well and freeze. I've used it a couple of years of age and it's just fine.

I mainly make peanut butter cookies. The butter has some flavor, not too bad, but the strong taste of the peanut butter really covers it up so that it's barely noticeable.

The tough thing is figuring dosage, it all depends on the quality and quantity of the weed you start with. Start out with a small piece of cookie and work your way up. My last batch ended up so strong 1/4 cookie is plenty, definitely don't want to OD on edibles, it lasts way too long.

I find I get a lot more physical effect and pain relief with edible, less psychoactive effect, I can still be functional. Also, if you eat a piece late evening it will keep working most of the night if you have trouble sleeping.

I certainly can see where at times the high is most inconvenient, but I also believe that the high is an integral part of the healing power of cannabis. I too need to learn more about edibles and tinctures as there are many times where medicating would be inconvenient for me due to a strong high.

I completely agree the way weed makes you feel is definitely an important part of its medicinal powers/applications.

you need weed with good CBD content - wide leaved indica strains that have not been worked by western breeders are likely to be good for this --- see any of the landrace Mazar-i-Sharif lines that have recently become available

the vast majority of modern strains do not contain CBD, or only in tiny amounts - CBD inhibits the effects of THC, so breeders will have been selecting against it

unworked landrace hashish lines are a good place to look for CBD

I suggest you check out posts by a user called Pops, they explain the need for CBD in med strains

THC is far less important than CBD for pain relief and for the majority of beneficial medical effects

Lot´s of good info here thanks. I agree that the relaxation I get from weed is important and winding down does me good but I do have a job that requires my undivided attention...

I have several new strains for next year, friends are sending me seeds and I have some Typhoons etc but as I am an outdoor grower (nube) I´ll have to wait for spring.

I might try some baking, my butter needs some more "beef" though...

say after me:

CBD
CBD
CBD

CBD does not come from leaving plants late

CBD comes from plants which have the genes to produce CBD

plants which have been bread by westerners to get people high do not have CBD

what you need are unworked native charas and hashish strains: real Afghanis, Pakistanis, Kashmiris and Himachali varities

you need them in their pure unworked form, not from Dutch seedbanks which will havbe (knowingly or unknowingly) selected against CBD

CBD is the majot medical component in cannabis for med users

look at posts by Pops and Sam Skunkman

CBD is it, but if the seed breeders, knowingly or unknowingly, breed out CBD, i cant exactly goto the afghan/paki mountains and swap some seeds.
How do you suppose i go about finding a strain high in CBD?

Here's a study for you on high CBD varieties...

Here's a study for you on high CBD varieties...

Composition of the essential oils and extracts of two populations of Cannabis sativa L. ssp. spontanea from Austria
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa4091/is_/ai_n9299539

And I have heard (but not verified with a study) that certain fiber hemp strains still have CBD in reasonable quantities. And also that some seed banks are now carrying hemp seeds at very low prices. I'd check out some Canadian seed banks.

And have you tried making tea? Some of the cannabinoids that ease pain are water soluble- just what they are, I've got no clue, but these articles say it works! THC is not water soluble, so very little gets into the tea.

Cannabis tea revisited: A systematic evaluation

Cuppa Gives A Better 'ooh'
http://www.thehempire.com/index.php/cannabis/news/cuppa_gives_a_better_ooh

With the use of cannabis tea only a small proportion of THC in the cannabis is ingested
http://www.cannabis-med.org/english/nav/home-bulletin.htm

I would make the tea and then dry the bud out to smoke later! The THC isn't water soluble, so it would still be in the bud! I imagine it would be as bland/mild smoking as "water cured" bud, but just as "THC potent" as before. It's worth a try!

There are a lot of studies on the effects of cannabidiol/CBD, just click the link in my sig below.

I'll be meeting with Gypsy later in the year, and everything going to plan seedboo and seedbay will be stocking Real Seed Company varities --- unworked hashish/charas and ganja lines
the NLD and WLD charas indicas are the ones to look for CBD in (cf. the work of Karl Hillig.... also check out Pops posts on here)
