How would you make this dresser stealth?

Hi guys,

I really lack any DIY know-how and I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I've seen a dozen threads where people somehow make the dresser appear normal from the front and gain access from the back.

Will the front panels unscrew from the drawers or do you have to saw them off?
If they have to be sawed I will be unable to do so because I live in an apartment and the people below me make a huge fuss about any noise!

What sort of adhesive would you use to attach the panels?

I only have 3 pictures of the dresser and it is only $20.

Measurements: 14" deep, 27" wide, and 37.5" high

This should give me about 2.5 square feet on the inside and would be good for a 150w HPS.

Or... would it be easier to work with this..

23-5/8"W x 15-1/2"D x 31-3/4"H

Two-doors like that makes me think it would be difficult to light proof.

Or should I go with a 24x12x70 single door cabinet?

I just want to get the most out of my 150w and I can't seem to find any cabinets that have a depth over 12 inches that aren't 70 inches tall.

Thanks guys,

you may be able to whack off the fronts of the drawers with a hammer. although thats going to make more noise than a saw, go outside of something. then glue/screw them so a piece of plywood painting the spaces inbetween black. and thats your new front.

if that made any sense...

Lay the dresser on its back....w/pencil mark where the drawer fronts sit on the front of the dresser.
Now remove the first drawer and place it on the floor...with the Back of the Drawer on the floor and the front facing up towards you....place your foot inside the Drawer on the back panel press it down to the floor with your foot ...now push forward on the drawer away from you....the back should snap off releasing the bottom and the sides.....wiggle each piece....back and forth until they break free from the front...save these pieces...they maybe useful later.

After you have done this to all the drawers....go to the Hardware store and purchase a Product called "Liquid Nails"....it come in a Tube like Caulk or a tube like toothpaste....run a small bead 1/8 inch all the way around the inside of the drawer front where it touches the dresser....place the drawer fronts back on the dresser....using the marks we made earlier....allow to dry overnight....then stand the dresser up....and there ya have it...it looks like a dresser from the front.

Now turn it around and figure out how the back panel is held on....most likely small nails around the outside ....we need to remove them...and replace the back Panel with a piece of 5/8 inch plywood and a piece of 2x4.

Lemme know when the front Mod is done....and we will go from there

Thank you so much Drbud, That helped a lot!

That sounds easy enough to do, and I'm going to try and pick it up regardless if I get one of these!

hey catman,if i was you i wouldnt care if i made noise or not.you pay rent just like they do so do what ever you want.and if they dont like noise they shouldnt have moved in an apartment where theres a shit load of people and if they say something to you tellem,if you dont like what im doing during the day light hours then move.i know you dont want to bring att to your self but its people like that, that need to be put in there place every now and then,if not i wonder what else they will be bitching about.they cant say shit if you do it during the day light hours so get to cutting if you have to..sorry about the rant but shit like that ant right.im not try n to get you n a reck thats just my 2cents.anyway hope to see this thang up and running.later

I also live in an apartment and one day last week was building my own cabinet.

After 5-6 hours of circular saws, hole saws, power drills and a nail gun I'm sure they were glad when I was done.

But not more glad than I, hehe - but like thebeachboy was saying, you pay the rent. If you've got work to do, get it done.

Anyway good luck it looks like you're about ready to make some good stuff.

Thanks for the advice guys!

I didn't end up with either of them! :badday:

I called the 3-chamber one less then a hour after there where posted and they never returned my message and the next day when I called they said they sold within 3 minutes. There one was 2 days old and was also sold.

So, I'm back on the hunt! I have my homepage set to websites with stuff for sale.

I'll post back when I decide on something. I'll probably wait about a week and then fuck it, I'm going to get something from the depot or lowes.

you cud also check craigslist. people always throwing out old stuff. or check local storage places they usually have shit people never want lol... stuff we do ! lol
