T5 vs CFL Heat Differences?

I am considering using either a 2' - 2 or 4 bulb T5 light or a 150W CFL for clones.
I am wondering if anyone has used both types & can tell me what heat differences I might expect?
Also, any preference as far as performance?

Thanks for your help,
Joe

If my memory serves me correctly one watt of expended energy=3.44 btu so no matter the type of bulb used your heat will be equal as long as the wattages are equal.

t5's recommended, better lamp spectrum availability.

I don't know if T5 is the same as T12, but i know with T12 your plants can touch the bulbs no problem, with CFL you will burn the leaves if they touch for a while. As far as performance the CFL will get you more lumens without ocupying as much space as the T5/T12, so the CFL is the choice if you have a smaller space or need more lumens/area, and the T5/T12 will be the choice if you have the space, because you can get a more even distribution with those, and no worries of burning leaves.

You can't do this with a CFL ;)

after seeing this you could possibly grow a plant right through a couple levels of spaced out 4 ft fluoros right? have the lowest level flowering the bottom of the plant, the next level the middle of the plant and the next level the top of the plant. that is if they can grow that close to them, seems you would get a decent output?

or just wind a plant up and around these lights growing right on them, scrog with the fluoros as the scrog screen in a way.

i use t12s and clfs and the light output on the clfs appears to be brighter but i love the t12 with no are circulating i can still touch the bulbsand there not how so even if i have an exhaust failure there are no worries and the resin production is insane i use 4 4ft 2 bulb fixtures which is about 25000 lumens and is 320 watts of mix spectrum

HEDPI> that shit is fucking insane

a t12 would be cooler than a t5. this is because there is more watts in a t5 setup. cfl's, or spiral fluoros,(with comparable wattage) get hotter than linear fluoros (T5, T8, T12) tubes since the the heat is more spread out.

i don't let my plants touch my t5. i'm not sure if they would burn, but they DEFINITELY burn after touching cfl's (even 23 watters)

Aren't CFL's hotter for a cab or given area because the ballast is attached to each bulb?

Can't you remote the ballasts with T5's T12's etc?

Exactly.. I was just about to say this. The ballast attached inside the CFL housing generates plenty of heat that won't exist with a remote ballast T5 setup..

perhaps if you build your own fixture. there's nothing remote ballast about my teklight...

Yes, this is assuming you're building your own. Even if you aren't, a T5 fixture will be a lot easier to convert to remote ballast vs CFLs..

I used to run cfl's in my veg cab. they produced alot of heat. I installed a T5 2' x 4 lamp and it made a huge difference. more light and less heat. alot less.

just my personal experience.
