Cannabis is closely related to the hops plant; if you can find a course of treatment for allergic dermatitis triggered by hops (Humulus lupulus), it might also apply here.

I think I may have a similar allergy to weed plants.. for a while they have been irritating my skin and giving me hives after contact with the leaves, and drying bud really seems to aggravate my sinuses/allergies. What i've found is that wearing disposable gloves is great for the skin contact reactions, and wearing a good quality face mask (N95 or similar) is ESSENTIAL in battling the sinus reactions. That's what I have most trouble with... I recently dried a bunch of plants upstairs in my attic, and for several days I was overcome with nearly constant runny nose/sneezing fits... repeated sneezing for like 5 or 6 times in a row... it sucked. But then I bought one of those face masks and it was able to basically halt my reaction for the time that I wore it. It would get bad again after i took it off, unfortunately, but they definately make a big difference in tolerating the allergies. Would be good for you to wear while tending to the plants, by the sounds of it. Very cheap and effective solution.

As SFC said, try growing a different strain. Maybe indica bothers you more/less than sativa. Trade some clones with a friend and see if you get the same reaction to the new strain. Good luck.

thats crazy that you all are allergic to weed...

its even more mind blowing to know that you can inhale it with no problems?

i know if you inhale burnt poison IVY you can get seriously fucked up- strange to know that it doesnt happen like that with ganja

I have the same thing, just not as bad as you. I only get it on my arms and only from living plants. I thought it was because the leafs are a bit sharp on the edges,so my delicate princes skin gets small cut :)

I've been known to emerge from the flower room with a red and irritated face cause I couldn't keep my nose outa the flowers!

For me the irritation has something to do with the sharp serrated leaf edges poking my delicate dermis.

Damn that has to suck majorly. You can smoke dry cannabis but you get a reaction from live plants? I would cry if I were in that position lol.

Whatever

Contact dermatitis...and it won't go away. It is not uncommon among canna growers. Unprotected contact in an attempt to 'get used to it' will only cause unnecessary suffering. Wear long sleeve shirts and latex gloves. Maybe try some benadryl. I've seen some get it overnight after years of no issues. A friend has it and unless they wear long sleeve shirts and gloves when handling plants they break out.

Well thanks for everyones input it seems a lot of people have similar problems. Glad I posted now.

Long sleeve shirt and gloves is working. I don't sneeze it seems as I think it was from me touching my face now after having touched the plant....we'll see heh.

I get some minor skin irritation too. It's getting worse as I become more sensitized to the plant. Exposing yourself more to 'get used to it' is not a safe way to deal with allergies. You could potentially end up making them worse! Long sleeves with a thumb-hole cut in them (like long underwear) will help protect that thin, sensitive patch of skin at your wrist, which is where my reaction is the worst.

You think this is bad, try picking cucumbers... I've 'flown the Polish airplane' enough to have frequent flyer miles. First Class just means you have a pile of burlap sacks to lay on, lol. Those things have SPINES! Talk about a nasty rash that keeps ya from getting laid... hahahahaha

One last thing to mention is the possibility that your allergies may be related to pests or a sensitivity to pesticide. Bad reactions from the bites of plant pests are not unheard-of, and one greenhouse worker at the place I used to play hydro-mokey was hospitalized after exposure to some odd species of mite that rode in on a bale of coco fibre. FYI.

This happens to me sometimes. I've found that if I have a set of clothes to wear while working and then shower when I'm done. It's not so much of a stress and I don't sneeze as much. It comes and goes though and seems to be worse with some varieties.

Hey man are you growing Northern Lights by any chance? Many growers can get allergic reaction growing NL or a cross of it.

This started happening to me recently.... I would occasionally get itchy wrists in the past, but it's elevated to full on hives for several hours after contact. It's worst where the skin is thin, as stated... inside wrists and inside elbow.

Gonna start wearing long sleeves and gloves I guess.

Strain is mostly sativa.

Oh, the shit we go through for this hobby. :bashhead:

ive found that i was allergic to the contact of mj plant in the very early 80's and so far is the best relief for a 'contact' is to wash with orange soap, the one sale at hardware for mechanics (a gallon with a pump) it rub the shit away and use hot water and rinse lot and repeat .it stop the rash almost instantly .

it work well to clean bong when you rub it with a scott towel , rince with hot water and it leave no smell . rinse !

wear long sleeve but use something that have no hair adherence ! cats and dogs hair is lethal in buds .

wear glove !

a mask is important , it get my asthma out of hands so fast when i have no mask .

Too much of anything can be a problem, this is prolly why most only notice the affect after being in contact with the terpines and such for extended periods ie trimming or growing or breeding and if anyone is as amazed at cannibis plants as me i know that we end up spendin alot more time around them then we would even imagine lol

yes i have the same problem I will be using gloves and a mask from here on out but the only thing that has helped me thus far is to wash my hands very well with warm water and a soap containing pumice. touching my face or near my eyes without washing is suicide
